When it comes to exciting adventure and paranormal reality TV, Josh Gates is a standout host. He first became well-known with the show Destination Truth, and later created Expedition Unknown. That show has been so successful, it even spawned a spin-off that’s already eleven seasons in!
HBO Max has announced that Season 11 of the reality series Expedition X will premiere on January 8, 2026. The popular paranormal adventure show will once again be hosted by Phil Torres and Heather Amaro, alongside their leader, Gates. They took over hosting duties from Jessica Chobot starting with Season 8. The new season follows closely after Season 10, which concluded on October 22 with an episode called “Welcome to the Real Derry,” where Heather and Phil investigated haunted places in Bangor, Maine, connected to Stephen King’s IT.
First airing in 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic, Expedition X quickly gained a loyal following with its exciting adventures. Phil and Jessica have traveled the world investigating strange phenomena, from the eerie Island of the Dolls in Mexico City to Bangkok, Thailand, where they looked into a mysterious UFO cult. The show has also featured guest investigators like Amy Bruni and Adam Berry (known from Kindred Spirits), actor and comedian Rhys Darby, and UFO advocate Luis Elizondo. Where Are the ‘Expedition X’ Team Going in Season 11?
Like past seasons of Expedition X, Heather and Phil will explore some fascinating places in Season 11. They’ve announced investigations in Ocracoke Island, North Carolina; La Mancha, Spain; the USS Hornet in San Francisco; and rural Pennsylvania, where they’ll look into a famous story about a powerful bird that can change its shape. However, the season starts with a thrilling adventure in Vulture City, Arizona, and a well-known face for fans of the paranormal will be joining them!
The new season kicks off with paranormal investigator Jack Osbourne joining Heather Amaro in Vulture City, Arizona. This abandoned gold mining town, a true ‘ghost town,’ has a history of violence and is said to be filled with paranormal activity. Reports include ghostly voices, shadowy figures, objects moving on their own, and even a haunted doll.
While investigating the creepy, abandoned ruins, Amaro and Osbourne find evidence of a terrifying past haunting the town. An old legend suggests something even more frightening is at play. Are the ghosts of the town’s violent history still present, or has a greater evil emerged, forcing them to retreat?
The new series Expedition X will debut on Discovery Channel January 7, 2026, at 9 PM Eastern and Pacific Time. It will also be available to stream on HBO Max starting the following day.
