Charlie Cox Is Absolutely Shook To Find Out When The Last Time Zooey Deschanel Watched Elf Was

Like many families, we watch Elf every Christmas – it’s truly one of the best holiday movies! My brother-in-law always requests it, and it’s hard to disagree – it’s a hilarious classic. Surprisingly, Zooey Deschanel, one of the movie’s stars, hasn’t seen it since it came out in 2003!

While promoting her new film, Merv (available now on Amazon Prime), Zooey Deschanel’s co-star, Charlie Cox, was surprised to discover she hadn’t seen it in over 20 years. It sounds like she might finally get around to watching it this year, and their chemistry together is wonderful.

Charlie Cox Loves Elf

In an interview together with Jake Hamilton at Good Day Chicago, Deschanel is asked by Hamilton if her family finds it on the Christmas movie schedule every year (like the rest of us). Deschanel admits that she doesn’t, but that her daughter asked her this year to watch it. Cox then asks Deschanel when the last time she’d seen Elf, and she reveals that she has not seen it since the premiere, which blows Cox’s mind. He says:

You haven’t watched it since it came out? Let me tell you, it’s fantastic! And you’re amazing in it!

She takes the compliment, but Cox is still flabbergasted, adding what we’re all already thinking:

Everyone in the world probably knows that movie better than you!

Zooey Deschanel admits she’s only seen parts of the movie, and surprisingly, she wasn’t even present for the premiere of what is arguably her most iconic scene. In an interview with Cox and Hamilton, she explained that she stepped away to use the restroom during the shower scene where she sings with Will Ferrell.

She mentioned watching that clip more than anyone else, which makes sense since it became popular again this year after Will Ferrell’s kids re-enacted the famous shower scene.

It’s not unusual for actors to avoid rewatching their old movies, but it’s a bit surprising that Zooey Deschanel hasn’t seen her popular Christmas film, considering how often it’s shown every year. Now that she has children, though, it will probably be impossible for her to avoid it.

As a huge movie fan, I absolutely love seeing what captures the imagination of the next generation, and my niece and nephew are completely obsessed with this film! Even during summer, my niece will randomly recite lines – she’s particularly fond of Will Ferrell’s hilarious story about his journey from the North Pole to New York. They demand we watch it every single Christmas, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. It makes me think Zooey Deschanel and her children will be making it their annual tradition for years to come, too.
