Okay, so stories using holidays as a setting? Totally been done before. But the people making the new Batman stuff actually explained why Batman and Christmas work so well together, which I thought was cool. It’s not just a random pairing, apparently!
As Roth pointed out, Batman stories are usually quite dark. By adding the cheerful spirit of Christmas – especially in a Batman story meant for families – Bat-Fam becomes even more appealing to younger viewers. It’s a bit like Batman Returns, which also used Christmas as a backdrop, but didn’t focus on the scary version of The Penguin. Both Bat-Fam and Batman Returns show that Christmas can be used in storytelling in different ways.
Will There Be A Season 2 Of Bat-Fam?
As of today, it’s still unknown if Bat-Fam will get a second season. The show premiered on Amazon Prime Video in November 2025, so it’s too soon for Amazon to decide about a renewal. Some viewers found it wasn’t great, but it might have worked better as something other than a cartoon.
So, originally, we were just planning on making the movie, but things got a little complicated when David Zaslav took over at Warner Bros. He had a different idea for the studio, and a lot of projects, including ours, weren’t guaranteed to continue. Luckily, Warner Bros. still believed in the idea and wanted us to keep going, but it wouldn’t be on HBO Max anymore. Then Amazon saw Merry Little Batman and absolutely loved it! They started asking what else we could do with the characters, and when we officially joined Amazon, it really confirmed that they wanted to see more of this fun world. Honestly, watching it makes you want to see the whole DC Universe done in this style!
Roth’s recent comment doesn’t only suggest the streaming service might renew Bat-Fam; it also highlights that the show, despite any surprising thematic differences, still has potential.
