Spoilers Ahead for Avatar: Fire and Ash
With the huge success of Avatar: Fire and Ash, it seems James Cameron’s Avatar movies will continue. One big question was the fate of Stephen Lang’s character, Colonel Quaritch, the villain from the first film. While the movie didn’t clearly state what happened to him, it strongly suggests audiences will see more of Quaritch in future Avatar sequels.
I recently stumbled upon a clip from the new Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora expansion, From the Ashes, thanks to a tip from a user on X. The story picks up a few weeks after the events of the previous DLC, Fire and Ash, where we last saw Quaritch’s fate hanging in the balance. Interestingly, during the From the Ashes credits, you can hear what sounds like Lang voicing Quaritch – he’s talking about Varang and her clan, and hinting at whether the RDA will stick around in the Western Frontier. GamesRadar+ flagged this as a pretty significant detail, and I have to agree – it definitely leaves you wanting more!
I just learned we’ve lost four of our best soldiers from Varang’s unit. The situation is bad overall. I need you to return to Bridgehead immediately – leave at first light. When asked about pulling out of the Western Frontier, Quaritch said, “Absolutely not. You’ll continue to manage things from a distance. Keep the pressure on and let the rebels stew. It’s time we regroup and figure out our next move.”
As a huge Avatar fan, I was so excited to see the From the Ashes DLC finally confirm that Quaritch is still out there! We’ve all been hoping to see the original cast return in the upcoming sequels, and it sounds like it’s really happening. Sam Worthington actually let slip earlier this year that he’d already filmed his scenes for both Fire and Ash and Avatar 4 – they’ve even started filming the fourth movie! Apparently, Avatar 4 will jump forward in time, so we might have to wait a bit to get more details. James Cameron is keeping things under wraps, but it definitely seems like the studio is committed to Avatar 4 as long as Fire and Ash does well in theaters, which I’m sure it will!
