Great news for fans of Assassin’s Creed! Netflix has announced who will direct the first season of its highly anticipated series, based on the popular video game. The streamer has been developing the show for a while, and now they’ve brought on an award-winning television director to lead the project, along with a confirmed cast.
Netflix has tapped Johan Renck to direct its upcoming live-action Assassin’s Creed series. Renck is a well-known director with credits including episodes of Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, and the Emmy-winning HBO drama Chernobyl. He most recently directed the 2024 Netflix film Spaceman, starring Adam Sandler. According to Variety, Renck is currently the only director attached to the Assassin’s Creed series, though the number of episodes hasn’t been announced.
The upcoming Assassin’s Creed series has revealed its main cast: Toby Wallace (known for Finestkind), Lola Petticrew (Trespasses), Zachary Hart (Slow Horses), and Laura Marcus (Death by Lightning). The show will center on the age-old conflict between the Templar Order and the Assassin Brotherhood. Like the popular video games, the series will feature a modern-day character who uses a virtual reality device called the Animus to relive the memories of their ancestors—Assassins from different historical periods—and uncover the hidden truths behind the ongoing war.
Assassin’s Creed is a fast-paced action series about a hidden conflict between two groups: one trying to control the future, and the other fighting for freedom. The stories take place during important moments in history, as characters struggle to decide the fate of humanity.
