With high expectations for Hattie, Lovely’s vivacious character known for her animated antics and sharp wit, I anticipated another round of chaos alongside Madea, Aunt Bam, and Mr. Brown. However, to my surprise, the movie progressed without Hattie’s presence, leaving many of us fans puzzled as to why she was absent.

Why Isn’t Hattie In Madea’s Destination Wedding?

In 2019, Patrice Lovely was seen as Hattie in “A Madea Family Funeral“, a film believed to be the last of the franchise. However, following its release, Lovely hinted that Hattie might still have a role within the Madea world.

In a comforting manner, Lovely conveyed to the fans that Hattie’s tale was certainly not reaching its end. In an interview with MadameNoire back in 2019, she expressed her thoughts as, “She isn’t going down without a fight:

Hattie has many projects happening at the moment, so it’s worth keeping an eye on her progress. Just because Madea might be resting, it doesn’t mean Hattie will slow down. No, she won’t fade away like that.

In the latest “Madea’s Destination Wedding,” those words now glaringly differ from her unexpected absence in the film. Previous movies had a significant role for Hattie, but surprisingly, this new adventure made no reference to her location at all.

Although there’s a lot of chatter about it, Lovely hasn’t spoken out regarding her absence from the movie. Fans have been posting questions on her Instagram about her exclusion from “Destination Wedding,” but she remains silent on the matter so far.

Based on her excited comments about resuming the role in 2019, it seems her departure might have been a creative choice rather than a personal one. Interestingly, Tyler Perry hasn’t said anything publicly regarding the casting change, but with Cassi Davis Patton reprising her Aunt Bam role and David Mann as Mr. Brown, the lack of Hattie in the cast stands out even more.

Before the release of “Destination Wedding”, Perry’s film titled “STRAW” (released on June 6) aspires to present an emotionally impactful narrative. It boasts a star-studded cast including Taraji P. Henson, Teyana Taylor, and Sherri Shepherd.

Notably recognized for portraying the humorous character Hattie in the series Love Thy Neighbor, as well as multiple films featuring Madea, such as Boo! A Madea Halloween, Boo 2!, and A Madea Family Funeral. Furthermore, she gained recognition beyond the Madea universe through her involvement with the UniverSoul Circus, a one-ring circus based in Atlanta that was established in 1994. Later, Lovely moved on to stage plays, appearing in several of Perry’s productions.

As Tyler Perry keeps developing the Madea series on Netflix, we’ll have to wait and see if Hattie Mae will reappear or remain an enigma in the expanding world of Madea’s cinema.
