There have been many science fiction movies, like Don’t Look Up. Now, a new film from Korea called The Great Flood is quickly becoming popular, topping streaming charts just days after it started appearing on Netflix.

Netflix’s latest movie, The Great Flood, directed by Byung-woo Kim and written by Kim and Moisés Velasco, is currently the most-watched film on the platform worldwide, according to FlixPatrol. It’s beating out popular titles like Wakeup Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and The Croods: A New Age, which hold the next four spots globally.

The movie The Great Flood is currently the most popular film globally and in the United States. It premiered on Netflix on December 19th and features Kim Da-mi and Park Hae-soo. According to Netflix, the film tells the story of a mother in Seoul who bravely climbs to the top of a skyscraper with her son during a worldwide flood, hoping to save him—and unknowingly, all of humanity.

Reviews for The Great Flood Are Mixed

I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz about The Great Flood, even though the critics haven’t been kind – it’s sitting at 54% on Rotten Tomatoes after 13 reviews. Honestly, the audience doesn’t seem much happier, with a score of only 41% after over 100 ratings! One reviewer, Julian Roman from MovieWeb, put it perfectly: the movie throws a lot of twists at you, and while a big reveal in the middle changes everything in an interesting way at first, it quickly gets too complicated and hard to follow.

Pierce Conran from ScreenAnarchy, in a review for Rotten Tomatoes, described the film as starting as a disaster movie but quickly becoming a wildly imaginative, though frustratingly silly, science fiction story.

Viewers had strong reactions to the movie. Priscilla M. wrote on Rotten Tomatoes that it was “terrible” and confusing, calling it a waste of time. Oscar F. found the idea interesting but criticized the execution, saying the movie revealed too much too early and lacked suspense.
