With the 2025 TV season wrapping up, NBC is ending the run of its sitcom, The Paper, before its first season is complete. This is disappointing for viewers who aren’t Peacock subscribers. However, it does make room for the new sitcom Stumble, starring Taran Killam and Jenn Lyon.
NBC is ending the broadcast of its show, The Paper, before the first season is finished, according to Variety. While the first seven episodes aired on Mondays at 8:30 p.m. Eastern, the remaining three episodes won’t be shown in that time slot when the new TV season begins. NBC plans to air the final episodes on Saturday, January 3rd, though the exact time hasn’t been announced yet.
Typically, if a TV show is moved from a popular weeknight timeslot, it’s a bad sign. However, that doesn’t seem to be true for The Paper. When I first watched the pilot on NBC, it turned out to be an edited version of an episode that was already available online.
The new show based on The Office, starring Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, and Oscar Nunez, is available exclusively on Peacock, with the entire first season ready to stream. Just because it didn’t get a traditional TV run on NBC doesn’t mean it’s canceled – a second season is still possible.
While it’s disappointing for viewers who’ve been tuning in to the show on NBC each week, this change actually benefits fans of the mockumentary series Stumble.

The new comedy series Stumble is a mockumentary that takes a look at the competitive world of cheerleading, and features real-life cheer coach Monica Aldama as an executive producer. The show stars Taran Killam (known from Saturday Night Live), Jenn Lyon (Claws), and Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked). While another Friday night show, Lopez vs. Lopez, was recently cancelled, the creators of Stumble said they were pleased to air alongside Reba McEntire’s Happy’s Place.
NBC is expanding the reach of its comedy show. While new episodes will still air on Fridays at 8:30 p.m. Eastern, the network will begin showing reruns on Mondays at the same time, starting January 5th. These reruns will take over the time slot previously held by another show, The Paper.
NBC is hoping to boost ratings for Stumble by moving it to Mondays, a popular night for television and a timeslot following the hit show St. Denis Medical. Stumble reruns will air on Mondays until February 2nd. After that, NBC’s Olympic coverage will take over primetime for most of February. Then, starting February 23rd, Tracy Morgan’s new show, The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, will air after St. Denis Medical.
Just because The Paper is no longer airing weekly doesn’t mean it’s canceled. As a Peacock original, it will still be available, and this change might actually help Stumble get renewed for another season. You can currently stream all episodes of both shows on Peacock.
