The first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday has been released, and it shows the movie is already doing something different from previous films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the cast was announced last March, many wondered if Chris Evans would reprise his role as Captain America, as he wasn’t initially listed. The new trailer confirms he will be back for Avengers: Doomsday.
The new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday brought Steve Rogers (Captain America) back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and revealed a surprising twist: Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter had a child together. Beyond this exciting reveal, the trailer signaled a break from a pattern Marvel has followed for a long time.
The First Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Breaks An MCU Trend
The initial trailer for The First Avengers: Doomsday heavily features Chris Evans reprising his role as Captain America. It offers a glimpse into Steve Rogers’ life after returning to the past to be with Peggy, showing his son and suggesting he’s given up being a superhero – a point emphasized by him storing away his Captain America suit from Avengers: Endgame.
This is a first for Marvel’s Avengers films. Previously, all four Avengers movie trailers highlighted the overall story and featured the entire team. While shorter TV spots sometimes focused on individual heroes, the main trailers – especially the initial teasers – always emphasized the team dynamic, until the trailer for Doomsday, which centered on Steve Rogers.
Will The Other 3 Avengers: Doomsday Trailers Follow Its Lead?
The initial trailer for Avengers: Doomsday marked a departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s established pattern, which had been in place since the first Avengers film and its trailer in October 2011. It’s currently unknown if the remaining trailers – three more will be released alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash each week – will continue this approach of highlighting one character at a time.
Considering everything, this approach makes the most sense right now. It always felt strange that Marvel would release the initial trailer for Avengers: Doomsday a year before the movie comes out on December 18, 2026, particularly since the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026, hasn’t even been released yet.
Marvel could hint at its upcoming film by releasing trailers focused on individual characters – heroes like Thor, Doctor Doom, Loki, Doctor Strange, and Wolverine are all possibilities. With Chris Evans officially returning, it appears the remaining trailers for the new Avengers movie will also follow this pattern, highlighting one character at a time, and that’s a great approach.
