Timothée Chalamet Reveals Key Details About Paul Atreides in ‘Dune 3’

Timothée Chalamet, who stars in Dune, has discussed how his character will evolve in Dune: Part Three. After Dune: Part Two showed Paul Atreides becoming a war leader – a change from his earlier life – the next film jumps ahead several decades. Chalamet says we’ll see an older Paul who is very different from the character audiences have known so far.

Timothée Chalamet is currently promoting his new movie, Marty Supreme, a comedy-drama that’s already getting attention as a potential Oscar contender. In the film, Chalamet plays a table tennis player striving for stardom. He recently told GamesRadar+ that filming Marty Supreme while also preparing for Dune: Part Three wasn’t as difficult as it might seem. He explained that the roles were so different in nature and the films had such contrasting tones, it was easy to keep them separate.

While discussing his role in the third Dune movie, Timothée Chalamet avoided revealing plot details but shared that his character, Paul Atreides, will be noticeably older and burdened by the responsibilities of leadership. He described it as a significant change for the character. Chalamet also expressed his admiration for director Denis Villeneuve, calling the task of guiding the Dune franchise both challenging and inspiring.

I don’t want to reveal too much detail, but Denis was remarkably perceptive in understanding how difficult this project would be. Many of the creative discussions we had – which were largely driven by his vision, script ideas, and overall worldview, with me playing a smaller role – already acknowledged the hurdles of making a third film.

As a film lover, I found it really inspiring to see this filmmaker tackle the challenges of a third movie, especially after the success of the first two. It wasn’t necessarily about the acting, but more about appreciating the artist’s courage in facing those hurdles head-on. It was just great to witness that kind of artistic ambition.
