Ted Danson has been a constant presence on television for an incredible 43 years, and he continues to work steadily. He believes TV is unique because it allows actors to really explore and develop their characters over a long period of time, which is a major reason for his continued success.
Unlike movies, television lets Danson truly inhabit a character for years, allowing him to carefully develop the performance, voice, and connections in a way that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. His most memorable roles, like Sam Malone and Michael, are those where the character was given the space to evolve, surprise audiences, and become more complex over time.

I remember when Ted Danson really hit it big, and it was a different time for actors. There was a huge line drawn between who was considered a ‘movie star’ and a ‘TV star.’ Back then, if you were incredibly successful on a show like Cheers, a lot of people thought that was as far as your career could go. But Danson really committed to television, and it was amazing to watch him grow with the medium as TV started taking more creative risks and becoming something bigger.
I’m still amazed by Ted Danson! Even at 76, he genuinely loves what he does – he says acting makes him as happy now as it did when he was starting out. It’s so wonderful to see him thriving, and I especially loved seeing him work alongside his wife, Mary Steenburgen, on Man on the Inside season 2. Honestly, he has the same incredible energy and charisma today that he did back in the ’80s – he’s a true legend!
