The first trailer for Milly Alcock’s upcoming DC movie showcases a fantastic look at her Supergirl, including a clear view of her updated costume. The footage really highlights the differences between her version of the character and the one played by Sasha Calle. This comes after two recent popular portrayals of Supergirl: Milly Alcock’s and Melissa Benoist’s, who played the character in the Arrowverse TV series.

Following Melissa Benoist’s introduction of Supergirl in the Arrowverse, Sasha Calle portrayed the character in the DCEU film The Flash. Despite the movie receiving mixed reactions, Calle’s performance as Supergirl was a highlight. Now, with a brief appearance of Supergirl at the end of the Superman movie, the first trailer showcasing Milly Alcock in the role and her new costume inevitably draws comparisons to Calle’s cinematic portrayal of the Girl of Steel.

Milly Alcock’s Supergirl Movie Suit Differs From Sasha Calle’s In A Huge Way

When early photos and videos from the set of Supergirl appeared, people immediately started comparing Alcock’s and Calle’s portrayals of the character. But those pictures were taken from far away, so it was hard to see the details of the new costume. Later, Alcock officially debuted as Supergirl in Superman, but a long coat obscured her cape and other parts of the suit.

The trailer for DC’s Supergirl movie has finally revealed a clear view of Milly Alcock’s costume, and it’s quite different from the one Sasha Calle wore. Alcock’s suit is more closely based on the classic Supergirl look from the comics, though the belt design takes inspiration from the more futuristic version seen in the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow series.

As a Supergirl fan, I’m really excited about the new DCU version – she’s keeping the classic red skirt, and her family crest looks a lot like the one from Kingdom Come, which is awesome! But Sasha Calle’s Supergirl suit is a pretty big departure. She’s rocking pants instead of the skirt, which is a first! Plus, her cape doesn’t connect at the front like usual, the yellow on her crest is more subtle, and there’s this really noticeable red panel right on the front of the suit. It’s a cool look, just very different!

As a big fan of Supergirl’s look throughout the years, I noticed some interesting differences between the various versions. Specifically, when I was looking at images, I realized that Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl in the DCEU had a completely different costume than what we saw with Nicole Maines’ Supergirl. Maines’ version had a bold blue midsection and pants, while the earlier Supergirl, played by Nicole Maines, sported a yellow belt and red boots – details missing from the DCEU design. Actually, the look of Maines’ Supergirl, especially with the dark, shorter hair instead of the classic blonde, reminded me a lot of Lara Lane-Kent from the Injustice comics!

Why I Prefer Milly Alcock’s Supergirl Suit Over Sasha Calle’s

Both Supergirl suits are visually appealing and suit their different shows well. However, I personally like the costume worn by Alcock better because it updates the classic Supergirl look in a way that feels fresh and modern—much like James Gunn did with the new Superman suit for the upcoming DCU movie. This updated design really matches the bright, comic-book feel of the franchise.

I especially appreciate how Milly Alcock’s Supergirl costume gives the character a sense of hope. The upcoming 2026 DC movie, inspired by the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comics, will explore a sad past for Kara. This will create a compelling contrast between the confident image she presents in her suit and her true self as Supergirl.
