The initial trailer for Avengers: Doomsday has been shown in cinemas, and it hints at who might lead the next team of Avengers – but it’s a surprising choice. Fans have been waiting a long time, and the first two Avengers films in the new Multiverse Saga are coming soon, promising the return of many iconic heroes.
These movies will likely feature new heroes, and there’s buzz that we might see the X-Men and characters like Ghost Rider join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But Marvel recently announced a key casting choice for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, and this new character has the potential to become a future leader of the Avengers.
Steve Rogers’ Son Is The Perfect Leader For The Young Avengers
The initial trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is now showing in cinemas alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash. The trailer features the return of Chris Evans as Captain America within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It shows Steve Rogers retiring his Captain America suit after the events of Avengers: Endgame, and then reveals that he and Peggy Carter had a child. This new character – Captain America’s son – will play a significant role in the story.
Over the course of the Multiverse Saga, Marvel has been gradually setting the stage for a team of Young Avengers. While several young heroes have appeared in recent Marvel movies and shows, the team is taking so long to form that some of them are starting to feel too old to be considered “young.” Plus, the Multiverse Saga has included some projects that fans haven’t loved, and these projects have featured members of the future Young Avengers.
Giving Captain America’s son leadership of the Avengers would connect the sometimes-controversial direction of the franchise to a character with strong ties to a fan-favorite hero. This could also be the catalyst needed to finally bring the Young Avengers together for their own story.
How The MCU Could Age Up Steve Rogers’ Son
There’s one issue: Steve Rogers has a baby. However, Marvel hasn’t given us a clear timeframe for when Captain America returns in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer. The solution to how quickly his son ages might be that he was born soon after Captain America went back in time to be with Peggy.
A future installment, potentially titled Avengers: Doomsday, might bring back an older Steve Rogers from an alternate timeline, possibly with his teenage son. This idea is inspired by Marvel comics and the animated film Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow, which feature Captain America and Black Widow’s son, James Rogers, leading a team of young heroes. Avengers: Doomsday could adapt a similar concept, focusing on a new generation of heroes – the Young Avengers.
