As a cinephile, I can’t help but get excited about Disney’s live-action “Lilo & Stitch” movie that’s been steadily climbing towards the billion-dollar mark at the box office. If it manages to pass this milestone, it would be the first Hollywood film of 2025 to achieve such a feat. Directed by the brilliant Dean Fleischer Camp, this film boasts an incredibly talented cast including Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Chris Sanders lending his voice to Stitch, and Sydney Agudong.
Lilo & Stitch box office inches close to $1 billion worldwide
The 2025 Lilo & Stitch movie is nearing the $1 billion mark in global box office earnings, as reported by Box Office Mojo. Currently, the Disney live-action adaptation has amassed over $994 million globally, only $6 million shy of reaching this significant milestone.
Approximately 41.7% of the movie’s earnings, amounting to around $414 million, have come from U.S. theaters. Conversely, it has earned an estimated $579 million from international markets, accounting for about 58.3% of the total revenue. The film has been a box office hit for roughly eight weeks now.
Regardless of stiff competition from fresh films such as Brad Pitt’s F1, Scarlett Johansson’s Jurassic World Rebirth, and James Gunn’s latest Superman, Lilo & Stitch has persisted in boosting its box office earnings. Having achieved tremendous success, Disney announced the production of a sequel to the movie on June 26th, a day that is also recognized as “626 Day.” This day is significant because Stitch, who is also known as Experiment 626, is celebrated on this date.
Following the initial triumph of the movie, Disney’s Co-Chairman, Alan Bergman, mentioned that the affection for Lilo & Stitch has only intensified. The objective behind this fresh adaptation was to let viewers revisit these characters on the big screen once more, and ideally, experience as much joy watching it as we did creating it.
