Netflix Makes Official Decision On James Gunn’s DCU Future After WBD Acquisition

With Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) now merged, James Gunn’s role leading the DC Universe is secure. The entertainment industry is constantly evolving, and Netflix’s acquisition of WBD initially created uncertainty about the future of projects Gunn had planned for the DCU. However, those projects are now confirmed to move forward.

Netflix has assured everyone that Warner Bros. Discovery won’t be making significant changes to its staff after the acquisition is finalized. According to Netflix, both companies will continue operating separately, with their existing teams in place. We already know for sure that Supergirl is hitting theaters on June 26th, 2026, and then Lanterns will be streaming on HBO Max sometime late summer that same year. What to Expect From James Gunn’s DCU After Netflix/WBD Merger

James Gunn’s planned DC movies will still come out in theaters as scheduled. However, Netflix will now be able to stream content alongside HBO Max. At least six DC shows are confirmed to premiere on HBO Max starting in 2026, and more are planned for 2027 and later.
