In the second half of Stranger Things 5, one character will finally venture into the terrifying Upside Down. As the fifth and final season of the Netflix hit unfolds, the group from Hawkins is desperately trying to stop Vecna. The Upside Down, a creepy alternate dimension connected to Hawkins, has been a key location throughout the series, but not everyone has experienced it directly – until now.
In Season 5 of Stranger Things, Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard) is entering the dangerous alternate dimension known as the Upside Down for the very first time. The latest trailer for Volume 2 of the Netflix series shows Mike seemingly inside this dark world.
In one scene, Mike looks up as a red light flashes across the sky, lighting up his face. This red lightning is a common sign that someone is in the Upside Down, a dark and dangerous dimension often illuminated by red electrical storms.

A new clip appears to show Dustin, who we know is trapped in the Upside Down with Jonathan, Nancy, and Steve, hugging someone. Although it’s hard to see clearly, the person looks like Mike, hinting that the two will be reunited while stuck in the Upside Down during Season 5.

Mike is a main character in Stranger Things and has been dealing with the secrets of the Upside Down since the very beginning. While his friends Will, Dustin, and Eleven have all actually been to the Upside Down, Mike has always had to help them from the ‘real’ world. He hasn’t had the chance to go there himself.
In Season 2 of Stranger Things, Mike experiences the closest thing to direct contact with the Upside Down. A network of tunnels appeared, originating from the gate at Hawkins Lab. While these tunnels were located in Hawkins, they were filled with elements from the Upside Down, including its distinctive dust and strange, self-moving vines connected to the Mind Flayer.
Mike teamed up with his friends and went into the tunnels to cause a diversion, hoping to free Will from the Mind Flayer’s influence. This briefly let him glimpse the alternate dimension, but he’s still one of the few characters who hasn’t actually been to the real Upside Down.
Neither Lucas Sinclair nor Erica Sinclair have ever been to the Upside Down, though Lucas did explore the tunnels leading to it in Season 2. Murray, a friend of Joyce and Hopper, also hasn’t visited the Upside Down, but he knows it exists.
The fifth and final season of Stranger Things, created by the Duffer Brothers for Netflix, stars Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery, and Natalia Dyer. Volume 1 premiered on November 26th, with Volume 2 coming out on Christmas Day, and the series finale will air on New Year’s Eve.
Things Are Turning Upside Down for Mike in Stranger Things 5

Now that Mike is going to the Upside Down in the fifth season of Stranger Things, a lot of viewers are wondering what leads him there.
The situation is dire for the main group as the season nears its end. Vecna has kidnapped several children from Hawkins, including Mike’s sister, Holly, to further his evil scheme. Meanwhile, Dustin, Steve, Jonathan, Nancy, Eleven, and Hopper are all trapped in the Upside Down.
As things get dangerously close to a final showdown in Stranger Things 5, the group will likely have to work together in the Upside Down to defeat Vecna. This means Mike will probably join his friends and family there, especially given his role as a key leader.
Mike often takes the lead within the main group of friends in Stranger Things. He’s always been a key strategist, like when he ran their Dungeons & Dragons games. In the Season 4 finale, he helped Eleven defeat Vecna by coaching her from a distance. But it looks like in Season 5, he might have to take his support to the next level and help her while inside the Upside Down.
In Season 4, Will tells Mike he’s the emotional center of their friend group, making him crucial for their final battle against the forces in the Upside Down.
