Christina Chong has finished playing Lieutenant La’an Noonien-Singh on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Production on the fifth and final season of the show is nearing completion in Toronto and will be finished before the holidays.
Paramount+ has ordered a final, six-episode season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which will begin airing after the premiere of season 3 in June 2025. Filming for season 4 was completed in mid-2025, and it’s scheduled to launch on Paramount+ in 2026, followed by season 5 in 2027.
Christina Chong announced on Instagram that she’s finished filming her role as La’an on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. She marked the occasion with a photo of her trailer, clearly labeled with her character’s name, and set it to the song “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire – a fitting choice as it’s also her birthday month. At the recent Star Trek convention in Chicago, Christina Chong, who plays La’an Noonien-Singh, told TrekMovie she feels both happy and sad that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is finishing its run. She also mentioned she’s unsure if the planned spin-off series focusing on Captain Kirk (played by Paul Wesley) will actually happen, but confirmed that her character, La’an, won’t be continuing with the crew on the Enterprise after Strange New Worlds ends.
The third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds concluded with La’an continuing her relationship with Lieutenant Spock (Ethan Peck), who was her dance partner. She also resolved the trauma from her past encounters with the Gorn, and is now working on becoming more outgoing and embracing new experiences, even dressing up as her childhood hero, a detective she admired.
La’an Noonien-Singh was a new character introduced in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, but Christina Chong quickly won over fans with her compelling portrayal. Chong is also a musician and a beloved presence at Star Trek conventions, where she enjoys connecting with fans.
Even though production on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is almost finished, there are still two more seasons and 16 episodes coming. When the show ends, fans will finally find out what happens to La’an when Captain Kirk becomes captain of the Enterprise.
