New Christmas Movies to Watch in 2025

‘Tis the season for brand new Christmas movies.

With the holidays fast approaching, I’m already making my list of Christmas movies! Honestly, is there anything cozier than a warm cup of cocoa and a feel-good holiday rom-com? I don’t think so! Sure, there are probably more important things, but sometimes you just need a little simple joy, and that’s what these movies give me.

New Christmas Movies to Stream in 2025

Every year around this time, lots of new Christmas movies come out, hoping to get us feeling festive. You can always count on the usual offerings from channels like Lifetime and Hallmark, but we personally find those a bit cheesy. (But hey, if you enjoy them, that’s great!)

Beyond new movies in theaters, like the horror remake Silent Night, Deadly Night and classic re-releases such as Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (from 2000), there’s a great selection of new Christmas movies you can enjoy from the comfort of your home this year. Here are our top picks – happy watching!

Goodbye June is a Christmas drama about four siblings who come together when their mother’s health declines. The film explores themes of grief, family relationships, and forgiveness, and features a stellar cast including Toni Collette, Andrea Riseborough, Timothy Spall, Johnny Flynn, Helen Mirren, and director Kate Winslet.

Goodbye June streams exclusively on Netflix beginning December 12.

Champagne Problems

I just finished watching Champagne Problems, and it’s exactly the kind of cozy movie I needed! It’s a Christmas rom-com about a businesswoman who goes to Paris to buy out a champagne company, but ends up falling for the owner’s son. It’s super charming and stars Minka Kelly – it was directed by Mark Steven Johnson, and honestly, it’s a really feel-good watch.

Champagne Problems is streaming exclusively on Netflix.

A Very Jonas Christmas Movie

The Christmas comedy musical A Very Jonas Christmas Movie follows the Jonas Brothers – Joe, Nick, and Kevin – as they race against time to get home to the U.S. for the holidays after wrapping up their tour in London. Directed by Jessica Yu, the film is full of holiday chaos and teaches valuable lessons along the way.

In the Christmas romantic comedy Jingle Bell Heist, directed by Michael Fimognari, two people struggling with money unexpectedly fall in love while plotting a robbery at a well-known London department store. Olivia Holt and Connor Swindells star in the film.

A Merry Little Ex-Mas

The romantic comedy A Merry Little Ex-Mas follows a couple who are separating but try to have one final Christmas celebration with their family. Things become more difficult when the husband’s new girlfriend unexpectedly joins the festivities. The film, directed by Steve Carr, stars Alicia Silverstone and Oliver Hudson.

Tinsel Town

I’m so excited about this new movie! It’s about a former action hero who somehow ends up involved in a Christmas musical – can you imagine? It’s set in a town called Tinsel Town, and it’s directed by Chris Foggin. Plus, it stars Kiefer Sutherland and Rebel Wilson, which is a fantastic combination! I think it’s going to be a really funny holiday comedy.

Tinsel Town is available for purchase or rent via VOD on Prime Video, Apple TV or Fandango at Home.

The 10 Most Iconic Sweaters in Movie History

Jean Seberg’s Herald Tribune short-sleeve in Breathless

Let’s call the top Jean Seberg wears while selling newspapers in the film Breathless a sweater. It’s instantly recognizable: a short-sleeved, high-necked piece with the New York HERALD TRIBUNE boldly printed across the front. It’s more than just clothing; it represents style and sophistication. The sweater’s unique shape perfectly complements Seberg’s haircut and makes a statement compared to the more ordinary clothes worn by other characters. Forget standard tote bags – this sweater proves that eye-catching, branded clothing is a fantastic way to show your support for local newspapers.

Danny Lloyd’s Apollo 11 sweater in The Shining

Putting a main character in clothing that subtly references a famous space event will forever link Stanley Kubrick to claims he faked the moon landing. Danny Lloyd’s Apollo 11 sweater in The Shining not only boosted that conspiracy theory, but it’s also a genuinely cool piece of clothing. The thick, brightly colored, almost handmade-looking sweater features a clear rocket design against a yellow starry background. It appears during the already iconic scene where Danny Torrance enters Room 237, making that moment even more memorable thanks to the unusual knitwear. The movie never mentions the space program, so it’s unclear if Danny or another family member simply loves NASA – just another of The Shining’s many unsettling mysteries.

Freddy Krueger’s striped sweater in A Nightmare on Elm Street

Most of the sweaters we’ve included are ones we genuinely like or find appealing. The exception is Freddy Krueger’s sweater from A Nightmare on Elm Street. Once you know its origin, it’s instantly terrifying. The cherry red and olive green stripes are a pretty awful color combination, appearing muddy on screen. However, they’re also very noticeable, meaning Freddy’s stripes always give him away, even when he’s trying to blend in. The sweater also suggests that before becoming a nightmare, Freddy was just a man with questionable fashion sense.

Billy Crystal’s cable knit in When Harry Met Sally…

It’s hard to go wrong with the fashion in When Harry Met Sally…, but Billy Crystal’s cream-colored cable-knit sweater is particularly memorable. It first appears when his character, Harry, is sick in bed, with only Pepto-Bismol and Stephen King’s Misery for company. Because the movie aims for a realistic feel, Harry wears the sweater again during a cozy scene with Sally in his apartment. It’s the kind of sweater anyone would want to wear all the time!

A recent viral post by Ben Schwartz recreating the look highlighted how much sweater quality has declined since the movie was made, proving they really don’t make them like they used to.

Bruce Willis’ shawl collar in Die Hard 2

Action heroes don’t always need special costumes to seem capable. A great example is Bruce Willis in Die Hard 2 – editor Matt Singer’s favorite – where he wears a comfortable shawl collar sweater under a tweed coat while picking up his wife at the airport on Christmas Eve. This outfit perfectly captures the holiday season and shows that John McClane wasn’t anticipating any action that day. As the movie gets more intense, though, he quickly removes the coat and sweater, switching to a flannel shirt and holster. Hopefully, he remembered to grab his sweater and coat after everything calmed down!

Jeff Bridges’ cardigan in The Big Lebowski

Okay, let’s talk iconic sweaters. You absolutely cannot have a list without The Dude’s cardigan from The Big Lebowski. That Pendleton Westerley—it was seriously a forgotten ’70s piece before the Coen brothers brought it roaring back to life, and it’s been a Halloween go-to ever since. It’s just… perfect. That swirling, earthy pattern, the big, comfy collar, and the easy zipper? It completely embodies The Dude’s whole vibe: relaxed, practical, a little bit retro, but undeniably cool. It’s more than just a sweater; it is the Dude’s attitude made wearable.

Colin Firth’s reindeer jumper in Bridget Jones’ Diary

Wearing a silly Christmas sweater is probably not ideal when you’re being introduced to someone your relatives want you to date – just ask Colin Firth’s character, Mark Darcy, in Bridget Jones’ Diary. When Mark and Bridget first meet at a New Year’s party, both of them make a less-than-great impression. Bridget’s awkward outfit is almost overshadowed by Mark’s bright green turtleneck with a huge reindeer head on it. The festive sweater clashes with his reserved personality, and their initial encounter doesn’t go very smoothly. He might have been better off picking a different outfit.

The Christmas sweaters in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

While Harry received more impressive gifts later in the first Harry Potter movie, the hand-knitted sweater from Mrs. Weasley quickly became an iconic piece for fans. The sweater, made from a dark red and blue wool with gold lettering and a stylish roll-neck, was actually quite fashionable – far more than Ron Weasley seemed to realize! He simply shrugged and said, “Mum made it,” completely unaware of how valuable – and stylish – it truly was. It was worth far more than all the money he had at Gringotts!

Anne Hathaway’s cerulean pullover in The Devil Wears Prada

That blue sweater in The Devil Wears Prada sparked a famous scene – and a powerful lesson. When Andy Sachs scoffs at a comment about accessories, her boss, Miranda Priestly, uses the seemingly ordinary sweater to demonstrate the far-reaching influence of the fashion world. Miranda corrects Andy, pointing out it’s not just blue, but a specific shade called cerulean. She explains how this color trickled down from high-fashion designers to stores, and eventually ended up in the bargain bin where Andy found it. Miranda emphasizes that even Andy’s seemingly simple clothing choices are dictated by the industry, proving that everyone is connected to the world of fashion, whether they realize it or not. She declares, “You’re wearing a sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room,” highlighting how even seemingly casual items are the result of deliberate choices made within the industry.

Chris Evans’ Aran sweater in Knives Out

Chris Evans’ character, Hugh Ransom Drysdale, in Knives Out, wears a cream-colored fisherman sweater that perfectly reveals his personality through its design. The oversized, slightly damaged Aran knit—with frayed cuffs and a few holes—suggests it’s an older piece, possibly inherited or bought second-hand as part of a deliberate attempt to appear down-to-earth. While Aran sweaters are traditionally expensive, the wear and tear give off a carefully cultivated air of casual indifference. This contributes to an initial impression of Ransom as approachable and friendly—an assumption the film quickly proves incorrect. In a movie already known for its great knitwear and fall fashion, Ransom’s sweater is particularly memorable and telling.
