Daniel Craig is pleased with the great reviews for his newest movie, Knives Out, which comes to Netflix on December 12th. However, he’s starting to wonder about the future of his detective character, Benoit Blanc, after seeing the recent Sesame Street parody, “Forks Out.”
Craig had a wonderful reaction to seeing his character recreated as a Muppet on Sesame Street. The Muppet was designed to solve mysteries, just like the character Craig plays in movies. Craig, a longtime fan of the show, shared how much it meant to him, saying, “Growing up with Sesame Street, this is really touching.”
The comedic sketch features Detective Benoit Blanc teaming up with Grover to solve the mystery of who devoured Cookie Monster’s pie. Actor Craig Robinson thoroughly enjoyed watching the parody, playfully commenting, “I love it. He’s much better looking than I am.” He also joked, “Don’t show this to Rian [Johnson] or I’m recast.”
Daniel Craig playfully suggested his character, Detective Benoit Blanc, could use a partner like Grover, and even compared the Muppet to his ‘Wake Up Dead Man‘ co-star, Josh O’Connor.
That’s exactly the kind of partner I’ve been looking for! It reminds me a lot of Josh, actually – it’s that small, unique thing he does.
Daniel Craig has expressed enthusiasm for a potential movie combining the mystery style of Knives Out with the beloved Muppets – a project he’d be thrilled to be a part of.
“The only thing I’m spitting feathers about is that I’m not actually there doing it with them.”
Rian Johnson Shut Down a Possible Crossover Between ‘Knives Out’ and The Muppets
Even though many fans have asked for it, Rian Johnson, the creator of Knives Out, doesn’t think a team-up between Benoit Blanc and the Muppets would be a good fit. He believes it would either clash with the established tone and realism of the series, or feel out of character for Blanc himself. He recently explained his reasoning, saying:
People often joke about making a Muppet version of Knives Out, and I wanted to explain why that wouldn’t really work. It’s not that it’s a terrible idea, but I really love both Muppet movies and the Benoit Blanc mysteries, and they’re just too different in tone. The problem is, putting Muppets into a Knives Out style story would feel off, because the plot relies on characters being murdered – and that doesn’t fit with the Muppets’ world.
Another option would be to put Benoit Blanc in a Muppet movie, which, honestly, sounds really entertaining. However, it would likely disrupt the established tone and believability of his character.
It’s fun to imagine Daniel Craig appearing on The Muppet Show as either his detective character, Benoit Blanc, or himself! With Disney planning a revival of the show to celebrate its 50th anniversary, maybe it could happen. We can only hope!
