Star Wars: A New Hope Rerelease Update Is What Fans Want to Hear

Good news for fans of Star Wars! The original movie, also known as Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, is returning to theaters.

Lucasfilm revealed earlier this year that the original Star Wars movie, A New Hope, will return to cinemas in 2027 to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The film is scheduled to be shown again on April 30th, 2027.

What is the update on the rerelease of Star Wars: A New Hope?

According to the official Star Wars website, Lucasfilm and Disney have scheduled a rerelease for February 19, 2027. Currently, no other film is set to come out on that date, although Cocomelon: The Movie from Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation will be released the following week.

The Star Wars website confirms that theaters will be showing the original 1977 version of the film, not the updated 1997 Special Edition, which sparked debate among fans.

Star Wars, widely considered a cinematic masterpiece and a hugely influential film, was created by George Lucas. The movie features Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia Organa, and iconic performances by Peter Cushing, Alec Guinness, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew, David Prowse, and James Earl Jones as Darth Vader.

According to the official movie description, the evil Darth Vader has captured Princess Leia as part of the Galactic Empire’s attempt to crush the rebellion. Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, piloting the Millennium Falcon, team up with the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO to save the princess, support the Rebel Alliance, and bring peace back to the galaxy.

Fans will have more than just A New Hope to look forward to in 2027! Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter, featuring Ryan Gosling, Flynn Gray, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Matt Smith, Amy Adams, and others, is scheduled for release on May 28, 2027.
