Seth Rogen’s Platonic Renewed for Season 3 at Apple TV

Seth Rogen, known for his hit shows, recently won his first Emmy for acting thanks to his role as Matt Remick. He also stars with Rose Byrne in the Apple TV+ series Platonic, and the streaming service has now announced whether the show will continue after its second season finale in October.

The critically acclaimed series, which received a perfect score from Rotten Tomatoes for its second season, has been renewed for a third season on Apple TV. Starring Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, the show follows two platonic best friends as they navigate life and reconnect after years of separation.

The second season of Platonic followed Sylvia, played by Rose Byrne, and Will, played by Seth Rogen, as they navigated personal challenges. These included a broken engagement for Will, career hurdles for Sylvia, and difficulties in Sylvia’s marriage with Charlie (Luke Macfarlane). Created by Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller, the show also features Carla Gallo, Sophie Leonard, Max Matenko, and Sophia Kopera.

Sony Pictures Television produces the show, where Stoller has an existing production agreement. Rose Byrne, Stoller, Josh Delbanco, and Conor Welch are executive producers, alongside Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver from Point Grey Pictures, for the series Platonic.

Seth Rogen and Jason Byrne are important stars for Apple TV. Rogen’s show, The Studio, recently won 13 Emmy Awards, including the award for Outstanding Comedy Series. Byrne has also been a regular on Apple TV, starring in Physical for three seasons and appearing in the holiday film Spirited.

Stoller and Delbanco expressed their enthusiasm about returning to the world of Platonic, praising their collaborators Rose, Seth, Sony, and Apple. Matt Cherniss, Apple TV’s head of programming, highlighted that Platonic demonstrates Seth and Rose’s unique ability to find humor in the challenges of mid-life.

Cherniss praised Nick and Francesca for significantly improving the show in its second season. He and his team at Sony are excited to see what they create for the upcoming third season.

Could Rogen & Byrne Reunite on The Studio?

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne previously collaborated on the comedies Neighbors (2014) and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016). They worked together again in 2023 on the show Platonic, and again earlier this year. Rogen mentioned that if Byrne were to appear on his show The Studio, she’d probably just portray herself.

Rogen told Byrne she didn’t need to, but Byrne responded that she would suggest herself for the role. It wouldn’t be unusual for Byrne to play herself on The Studio; several other famous faces have appeared as themselves on the show, like Zoë Kravitz, Martin Scorsese, and even the creator of Platonic, Nick Stoller.

I heard David Byrne talking about a possible reunion with Seth for The Studio, and it doesn’t sound like it’s going to happen right away. He said Seth might need some time to really appreciate what we had, and he doesn’t want us to overdo it or push things too hard. He thinks it’s good to just let things be for a while, you know?

There’s no news yet on when Season 3 of Platonic will be released. The first two seasons are currently available to watch on Apple TV+. Seth Rogen previously expressed his enthusiasm for continuing the show on the streaming service.
