‘Power Rangers’ Reboot Series Is Happening for Disney+ [Exclusive]

Exciting news for Power Rangers fans! After whispers started circulating, MovieWeb can confirm that the team behind the popular Percy Jackson and the Olympians series – Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz – are indeed working on a reboot of the classic superhero show. While they remained tight-lipped during an interview with MovieWeb’s Joe Deckelmeier, they hinted at big things to come for the Power Rangers franchise. Go Go Power Rangers!

At the premiere event for Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians (coming to Disney+ on December 10th), MovieWeb questioned Dan Shotz about rumors that he and Jonathan E. Steinberg would be involved with a new Power Rangers series. While he didn’t confirm if the new show would continue the existing 30-year story or be a fresh start, Shotz expressed his excitement about bringing the Power Rangers to the screen.

I’m not able to answer those questions, but we’re definitely working on making that story happen. That’s all I can share right now.

Dan Shotz was more reserved with information compared to Jonathan E. Steinberg. While Steinberg didn’t say whether the new Disney+ Power Rangers series would feature the original team (Jason, Zack, Billy, Trini, and Kimberly) or a fresh group of teens, he did confirm the rumors about their involvement are accurate.

“The rumor is true. I can not tell you, but I am very, very excited for that story.”

I first heard whispers about a Power Rangers reboot way back in March. Apparently, the team behind Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, are going to be writing, running, and executive producing it! Hasbro is involved in making it too, and from what I understand, they’re aiming to completely reimagine the show for a new audience, but also make sure long-time fans like me still enjoy it.

It’s still unclear if the new Power Rangers project will be a complete restart of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, something entirely new, or a blend of both, like many legacy sequels. However, we now know the project is moving forward with Dan Shotz and Jonathan E. Steinberg leading the charge.

Fans won’t have to wait much longer for more Percy Jackson! Dan Shotz and Jonathan E. Steinberg are bringing the second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians to Disney+ next week, on December 10, 2025.
