Superman Will Return in 2 DC Movies & Shows Before ‘Man of Tomorrow’

DC Studios is planning two Superman projects that will arrive before the film Man of Tomorrow. While the recent ‘Summer of Superman’ event introduced David Corenswet as the new Clark Kent in the DC Universe, fans will eventually see Superman join the Justice League. The story leading to that team-up will continue in Man of Tomorrow, scheduled for release in July 2027 and directed by James Gunn.

Recently, fans have said goodbye to two versions of Superman: Henry Cavill’s in the DC Extended Universe and Tyler Hoechlin’s in the series Superman & Lois, which concluded last year. This makes way for David Corenswet to take on the role in the new DC Universe. However, this doesn’t mean there will only be one Superman; the possibility of alternate stories allows other versions, like those in My Adventures with Superman, to continue.

Every Upcoming Superman Movie & Show Coming Before Man of Tomorrow

My Adventures with Superman Season 3

In addition to the new DC Universe led by James Gunn and Matt Reeves’ darker, crime-focused stories, DC Studios is also growing its animated world. Jack Quaid, known for his role in The Boys, will return as the voice of a young Clark Kent in Season 3 of My Adventures with Superman, which is currently slated to debut in early 2026.

In Season 3, Hank Henshaw will transform into the villain Cyborg Superman, and viewers will meet Connor Kent, who also goes by the name Superman.

As a huge Superman fan, I’ve been hearing rumors that his next animated movie might finally bring in the Green Lantern Corps! Apparently, they’re hinting at this to build up excitement for the confirmed My Adventures with Green Lantern spin-off. I’m really hoping it’s true – a Superman/Green Lantern team-up would be amazing!

Supergirl

The new Supergirl series feels like a follow-up to Superman, bringing back Kara Zor-El (played by Milly Alcock) and her dog, Krypto, for a sci-fi story inspired by the Woman of Tomorrow comics. It’s also rumored that Superman will make a brief appearance in Supergirl following some additional filming.

Despite recent changes, the core of Supergirl remains Kara’s story. The upcoming season will bring her together with a young woman named Ruthye to face off against Krem of the Yellow Hills, and will also feature Jason Momoa as Lobo. The series will also address the recent and controversial changes to Superman’s history, specifically those that portrayed the House of El in a negative light – at least for the time being.

The next movie in the DC Universe, Supergirl, will be released on June 26, 2026. It’s directed by Craig Gillespie, who also directed Cruella, and written by Ana Nogueria, who is also working on another big-screen DCU superhero film featuring a female lead.

BONUS.) Man of Tomorrow

James Gunn will next direct a DC Universe film called Man of Tomorrow. The movie will feature David Corenswet as Superman, alongside Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, with the two characters unexpectedly joining forces to fight Brainiac.

Similar to the way Superman has allies, the new movie suggests he won’t be alone. He’ll be joined by other heroes from the DC Universe, and many believe one of them is Wonder Woman, based on strong evidence.

James Gunn plans to begin filming in April 2026, with the movie Man of Tomorrow scheduled to release in theaters on July 9, 2027—less than two years after the first Superman film. For those wanting to explore the story leading up to the sequel, a prequel series is already available on HBO Max.
