Netflix Is Removing 5 Superhero Movies On January 1st (Full List)

Starting January 1st, a number of superhero movies will no longer be available on Netflix. The streaming service regularly updates its offerings, removing titles when licensing agreements end, and adding new ones. This means shows and movies people enjoy often come and go each month.

Netflix recently announced that over 100 movies and shows will be removed from its streaming service on January 1, 2026, according to What’s On Netflix. Among those titles are five superhero films that have been available to U.S. viewers for several months.

As a movie critic, I’m a little worried about the future of these films. It’s currently unknown where they’ll be available to stream next – or if they’ll be available at all. That means if you’re interested in seeing them, you might only have a few weeks before they disappear from whatever service they’re on now.

Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom

The last movie in the DC SnyderVerse (also known as the DCEU) has been available on Netflix since the beginning of November. The film follows Jason Momoa as Aquaman, who must join forces with his old enemy, Orm, to defeat the dangerous Black Manta.

As a big movie fan, I have to admit the sequel to Aquaman really disappointed critics. It feels like a pretty weak ending to Warner Bros.’ whole experiment with building a connected universe of DC films, and a bit of a letdown overall.

Blue Beetle

Fans of DC Comics will want to know that Blue Beetle is leaving Netflix on January 1, 2026. This movie, often considered one of the last from the now-discontinued DC Extended Universe, introduced audiences to the new hero Jaime Reyes, played by Xolo Maridueña, and told his origin story.

When Jaime discovers an alien artifact called the Scarab, he becomes the superhero Blue Beetle and finds himself in conflict with the powerful and intimidating Victoria Kord (played by Susan Sarandon). The movie recently became available on Netflix in November, which DC Studios president James Gunn happily announced on social media.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe became dominant, movies like Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider were popular. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, released in 2011, continued the story that Sony Pictures began with the first Ghost Rider film in 2007.

Okay, so Nicolas Cage returns as Johnny Blaze, the stuntman with a deal with the devil, in Spirit of Vengeance. This time around, he’s not trying to undo his bargain, but protect a young kid. Apparently, a shadowy religious group thinks this boy is being targeted by a demon, and Blaze, as the Spirit of Vengeance, is the only one who can keep him safe. It’s a pretty straightforward setup, really.

Hulk

Before Mark Ruffalo became known for playing the Hulk in Marvel movies, Ang Lee’s film Hulk was a big hit with audiences worldwide. Released in 2003, the movie featured Eric Bana as the scientist who transforms into the giant, green creature.

This early 2000s superhero movie was the first time this character appeared in a full-length film. It led to Edward Norton later playing the character, and eventually Mark Ruffalo, who currently portrays Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Kick-Ass 2

Netflix is removing Kick-Ass 2, the sequel to the superhero film based on the comic book series by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. The movie, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, continues the story of a teenage hero with a decidedly mature, R-rated tone.

Kick-Ass 2 continues the story several years after the first film, focusing on the hero as he faces a group of villains led by his old friend, Chris D’Amico, portrayed by Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
