The representative stated that Netflix seems determined to exaggerate details of Combs’s life for profit, ignoring the truth. They claim Netflix is taking private recordings – including confidential conversations with his lawyers – and using them out of context, despite never having the rights to do so.
I’m honestly shocked that Netflix would partner with 50 Cent, given their history with Sean Combs. It really seems like a strange move, considering the longstanding bad blood and how much 50 Cent has publicly criticized him over the years. To give him creative control feels especially odd, knowing their past conflicts and personal issues. It’s just baffling to me how Netflix could allow someone with such a clear vendetta to have that kind of power over a project.
He felt deeply offended that Netflix would allow someone who has consistently criticized him for years to tell his life story. He at least hoped for a fair portrayal from those he considered respectful.
In response to questions about the source of footage used in their docuseries, Netflix shared a statement from director Alexandria Stapleton. She explained that the footage was obtained legally and with the necessary permissions. Stapleton also emphasized the team’s efforts to protect the filmmaker’s identity, noting Sean Combs has consistently filmed himself for decades. They repeatedly contacted Combs’ legal team for comment and an interview, but received no response.

50 Cent and Stapleton have spoken about the difficult situation, emphasizing their dedication to representing those who are often unheard and sharing honest, detailed viewpoints. They acknowledge the serious accusations but want to remind everyone that Sean Combs’ story doesn’t define hip-hop as a whole. Their goal is to make sure that the actions of one person don’t diminish the positive impact of the entire culture.
