The new mystery film, Wake Up Dead Man, is now available on Netflix. It continues the adventures of detective Benoit Blanc, played by Daniel Craig. Directed by Rian Johnson, the movie features a star-studded cast including Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Thomas Haden Church, and Jeffrey Wright.
Rian Johnson began his popular mystery film series with Knives Out in 2019, continuing with Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery in 2022 and the upcoming Wake Up Dead Man in 2025. Despite some suggesting the series might be losing steam, Johnson has discussed the potential for future installments and even hinted at who he’d like to cast next.
Johnson mentioned he has a long list of actors he’d love to collaborate with. He jokingly added, speaking directly to Meryl Streep in case she was reading an interview with IndieWire, that he thinks she would be perfect for a murder mystery role.
Although he was excited about the idea of Meryl Streep being involved in a Knives Out film, he emphasized that there’s truly no one quite like Daniel Craig in the role. These movies require a very careful casting process, and they don’t always end up with the most obvious choices.
Johnson explained that finding actors is like a casting process – you approach well-known stars who are often busy, and you simply receive a yes or no. Ultimately, though, the movie gets made, and the chosen actor becomes perfect for the role. He did mention that Daniel Craig is one actor who is definitely confirmed to be in the film.
Rian Johnson explained that his work on the Knives Out films is a true collaboration with Daniel Craig. He said they’ll continue making these movies as long as they both enjoy it, and will stop the moment either one feels differently. He also pointed out that his deal with Netflix only covers two Knives Out movies – Glass Onion and Wake Up Dead Man – meaning he doesn’t have a current contract for any future installments.
The director didn’t reveal much about future plans, but hinted that fans of mystery movies will find plenty to enjoy, saying, “If you like whodunnits, you know how diverse the genre can be.” You can now watch Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery on Netflix.
