One of Punisher’s Few Surviving Villains Returns

Marvel’s most well-known enemy is returning to comics, and this time, he’s driven by an especially strong desire for revenge.

A new Punisher comic series is coming in February 2026 from Marvel, and it will bring back one of Frank Castle’s deadliest foes. Written by Benjamin Percy with art by José Louis Soares, the series will see Frank Castle forced to confront his past, and it will also resurrect Jigsaw. Marvel’s new Punisher #1 comic series brings back Frank Castle, more determined and brutal than ever. But this time, he’s struggling with memory loss while trying to track down criminals. He’ll find more than he expects when the violent villain Jigsaw returns, and sets his sights on taking down the Punisher!

William “Billy” Russo first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #161 in 1976. He was once the Costa mob’s top hitman and known for his good looks, earning him the nickname “the Beaut.” Russo was poised to become a major figure in the organization, but a run-in with Frank Castle left him permanently scarred. This led to a decades-long quest for revenge against the Punisher.

Jigsaw has repeatedly clashed with the Punisher throughout the years, but he’s never truly defeated him. Whether fighting alone or with groups like the Hood’s Gang or Thunderbolts, Jigsaw has always fallen short against the Punisher’s superior firepower. The conflict appeared to end in 2022’s Punisher War Journal: Brother #1, where Frank Castle (seemingly) killed Jigsaw.

Jigsaw has become a significant character in the Punisher’s story, appearing in both movies and TV shows. Dominic West played Jigsaw in the 2008 film Punisher: War Zone, which featured Ray Stevenson. Later, Ben Barnes took on the role for both seasons of the Netflix series The Punisher, starring Jon Bernthal as the Punisher.
