As a big action movie fan, I always get excited when two of the genre’s biggest stars collide. But this one… well, it didn’t quite live up to the hype. It’s an older film, from 2007, and it’s finally hitting free streaming. Jason Statham is usually a reliable pick for solid action, and he’s actually launched two new franchises recently with The Beekeeper and A Working Man. This movie, though? It felt like a one-off, and sadly, critics weren’t kind. Still, it might be worth a watch if you’re a completionist like me!
As a huge action movie fan, I’m really excited about this new thriller! It’s the directorial debut of Philip G. Atwell, and get this – the fight choreography is by the legendary Corey Yuen, who worked on The Transporter! Jason Statham plays a beaten-up FBI agent tracking down a shadowy assassin. It’s called War and is coming to a free streaming platform on December 1, 2025. They’ve released an official synopsis, which you can check out if you’re curious.
When FBI agent Jack Crawford (Jason Statham) loses his partner and family, he becomes consumed by a desire for revenge against an assassin known as Rogue (Jet Li). Rogue’s reappearance ignites a brutal conflict between two powerful Asian gang leaders, Chang (John Lone) and Shiro (Ryo Ishibashi), and the final confrontation between Crawford and Rogue uncovers a hidden truth.
‘War’ Is Worth Watching Just to See Jason Statham & Jet Li Share the Screen

Lionsgate
The movie War received largely negative reviews from critics, earning a mere 14% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics generally found it dull and full of tired tropes, despite featuring action stars Jet Li and Jason Statham. Audiences were more split, giving it a 51% rating on the Popcornmeter. While War didn’t quite deliver the high-octane action fans expected, it’s still worth watching to see Li and Statham go head-to-head.
Jason Statham remains a reliable star for straightforward, exciting action films. This year, he starred in A Working Man, a film written by Sylvester Stallone and directed by David Ayer, which was successful in theaters and online. Showing no signs of stopping, Statham’s upcoming projects include Mutiny, directed by Jean-François Richet (director of Plane); The Beekeeper 2, with Timo Tjahjanto (director of Nobody 2 and The Shadow Strays), now distributed by Amazon MGM Studios; and Viva La Madness, a new action crime thriller directed by Guy Ritchie, and loosely connected to their previous film Layer Cake.
Jason Statham’s next film is Shelter, a project with director Ric Roman Waugh (known for Angel Has Fallen). Coming out on January 30, 2026, the movie features Statham as a man living in isolation on a remote Scottish island. When he rescues a young girl, it sets off a dangerous chain of events, ultimately leading to an attack on his home and forcing him to confront his troubled past.
