Star Wars Officially Unveils Its First-Ever Jedi Clone Trooper Design

Star Wars has, for the first time in official storylines, shown a Jedi wearing the armor of a clone trooper – and it’s a surprising character. While clone troopers were central to the Clone Wars, official Star Wars movies and shows hadn’t previously depicted a Jedi fully suited up in their armor. That’s now changed.

As a huge Star Wars fan, I was really excited to see the latest issue of the main Star Wars comic, Star Wars #6, drop on October 1, 2025. And wow, it delivered! The comic showed Luke Skywalker completely decked out in clone trooper armor. It was a seriously cool visual – and apparently the first time ever in official Star Wars storytelling – across movies, shows, comics, and novels – that a Jedi has worn a full set of clone trooper gear. It’s a moment I definitely didn’t expect, and it’s already become a favorite!

Issue #6 of the Star Wars comic takes place after the events of Return of the Jedi and the Battle of Jakku, during the time of the New Republic. In this issue, Luke Skywalker wears clone trooper armor to battle a group of battle droids. This Star Wars comic series was intended to bridge the story gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, showing what happened with the original characters. However, issue #6 surprisingly focuses almost entirely on events and content from the prequel era.

Luke isn’t the only one sporting clone trooper armor in this story. Han Solo and a bounty hunter named Beilert Valance both wear versions of it as well.

The sixth issue of the comic book showcased three characters on its cover. They weren’t wearing helmets, but they were still fully armored and carried the standard DC-15A blaster carbines used by clone troopers, matching the look of characters from the original trilogy. The clone trooper armor featured in the comic is specifically the Phase 2 design, which fans will recognize from Revenge of the Sith and the later seasons of The Clone Wars.

As a huge Star Wars fan, I noticed something really cool in Star Wars #6! The clone trooper armor Luke was wearing seemed to be from the 501st Legion – you know, the one Anakin Skywalker led during the Clone Wars. It’s even more chilling because that same legion was with Darth Vader when he stormed the Jedi Temple and carried out Order 66. It’s a really neat detail that connects everything!

The comic’s alternate cover showed a close-up of a clone trooper’s helmet visor. Reflected in the visor were battle droids, and the cover also gave fans a clearer view of the armor’s coloring. This seemed to prove the armor belonged to the 501st Legion.

It’s quite a compelling detail for Star Wars fans that Luke Skywalker wore the same type of clone trooper armor once commanded by his father, Anakin Skywalker.

Luke and Han wearing the clone armor appears to be a reference to the original A New Hope. Fans will recall that in that film, Luke and Han disguised themselves as stormtroopers by wearing full sets of their armor while trying to rescue Princess Leia from the Death Star.

This marks the first time in official Star Wars stories that a Jedi has worn a complete set of clone trooper armor. It feels particularly appropriate that Luke Skywalker, the hero of the original films, is the one to do it. However, there have been other occasions where Jedi and clone troopers have shared or exchanged clothing and armor.

The latest issue of Star Wars, number 6, is now available from Marvel Comics, having been released on October 1, 2025. Fans can look forward to the next issue arriving on November 12, 2025.

Notable Times Clones & Jedi Have Worn Each Other’s Armor in Star Wars

As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve always found it interesting that Jedi actually wore pieces of clone trooper armor during the Clone Wars. It wasn’t a full suit, of course – think more along the lines of shoulder pads, arm and leg protection, and chest plates. You see it with characters like Obi-Wan and Anakin; they had custom armor made to look like clone trooper gear, but they never fully concealed their faces. So, while they didn’t become full-on clones themselves, they definitely adopted some of that iconic armor style throughout the series.

Beyond the official Star Wars stories, several Jedi have been shown wearing complete clone trooper armor. The most well-known examples appear in the Clone Wars 2-D animated series, which you can find on Disney+.

A good example of this can be seen with Jedi Master Saesee Tiin. He appeared wearing clone trooper armor that was specially altered to accommodate his horns.

Another instance of a Jedi wearing complete clone trooper armor happened in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. During his fight with Durge – who is now officially part of the Star Wars story – Obi-Wan wore a full set of armor, complete with the helmet.

Interestingly, the official Star Wars stories (known as ‘canon’) have shown clone troopers appearing as Jedi. This idea first came up in a novel based on Revenge of the Sith, where clones disguised themselves as Jedi during Order 66. Their goal was to deceive other Jedi, making it easier to pinpoint and eliminate them.

This character first appeared in the game Galaxy of Heroes, where players could use clones with altered appearances.

Jek-14 is another interesting example of a Jedi and clone character. While he’s only appeared in LEGO Star Wars and isn’t part of the official Star Wars story, he’s notable because he’s a clone who could use the Force and fight with a lightsaber.

While not common, clones have used lightsabers in the official Star Wars story. We actually see this happen in an episode of The Clone Wars when Captain Rex momentarily wields Anakin Skywalker’s lightsaber while wearing his clone trooper armor.

We might see a Jedi wearing complete clone trooper armor on screen someday, but it hasn’t happened yet in official Star Wars stories.
