‘Shrek 5’ Casts Skyler Gisondo and Marcello Hernández as Fergus and Farkle

The upcoming movie Shrek 5 is adding some new and familiar faces to its already impressive cast, including actors from Saturday Night Live and the Superman films. Announced in 2024, the fifth Shrek movie will feature the return of original stars Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy. Zendaya, known for her roles in Challengers and Dune, joined the cast earlier this year to voice Felicia, Shrek and Fiona’s teenage daughter. Now, the production has announced the actors who will voice Felicia’s brothers.

During the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, it was revealed that Shrek 5 has cast the voice actors for Shrek and Fiona’s sons, Fergus and Farkle. Skyler Gisondo, known for playing Jimmy Olson in James Gunn’s Superman, and SNL cast member Marcello Hernández will voice the animated brothers, according to Cinemablend.

Shrek and Fiona have three children – triplets named Fergus, Farkle, and Felicia – who were first seen as babies in Shrek the Third. They reappeared as toddlers in Shrek Forever After. The upcoming fifth Shrek movie jumps ahead in time, showing the kids as teenagers. While details are still secret, the film is expected to focus on Shrek navigating the challenges of raising rebellious teens. It’s also possible the story will give more attention to Shrek’s children than to Shrek and Fiona themselves, though that hasn’t been confirmed.

‘Shrek 5’ Boasts a Stellar Cast but Already Stirred Controversy

Skyler Gisondo is quickly becoming a recognizable face, with memorable appearances in projects like Booksmart, Santa Clarita Diet, and Licorice Pizza. He recently stood out alongside established comedic actors in HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones and will be back for another season of Netflix’s animated series Haunted Hotel. Fans will also see him reprise his role as Jimmy Olsen in an upcoming TV show within the new DC Universe. Adding to his busy schedule, Gisondo is set to star in the next Meet the Parents movie, Focker-in-Law, playing Ben Stiller’s son. There’s also a possibility he’ll join Kenneth Branagh in A24’s new comedy, Goblin, though his involvement hasn’t been officially confirmed.

Since joining Saturday Night Live in 2022, Bowen Yang Hernández has quickly become a fan favorite, especially for his recurring character Domingo, who’s appeared alongside stars like Pedro Pascal and Sabrina Carpenter. He also had a role in the recent Happy Gilmore 2, playing the character Esteban. Hernández continues to shine on SNL, and he’s expanding his work with a voice acting role in the upcoming The Angry Birds Movie 3. While his filmography is still growing, he’s clearly making a name for himself.

The upcoming film, Shrek 5, has been in the spotlight because of its cast, but also due to criticism from fans about how some of the characters look. Many compared the redesigns to the negative reaction the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog received. However, with a release date of July 2027, there’s still time to make changes. The film was recently pushed back from a December 2026 release, likely to avoid competing with the new Avengers: Doomsday movie, and the release date could change again as production continues.
