A new French thriller series has vanished from the streaming service’s listings following claims that it copied material from another work. This comes at a tricky time for the platform, which has been enjoying success with the new sci-fi series Pluribus created by Vince Gilligan. The removal of the series happened before it was officially released.
Apple TV has removed the French series The Hunt (Traqués) from its lineup due to claims of plagiarism. They’ve also taken down all related materials, including preview copies, photos, and trailers, from their website and YouTube. The series was originally set to premiere with two episodes on December 3rd, but its release is now on hold while the accusations are investigated.
Gaumont has temporarily delayed the release of its show, The Hunt, while they review the production process. A spokesperson said the review is to address concerns about intellectual property, which they consider a high priority.
The Hunt Is the Second Apple TV Series Pulled From Schedule
According to French journalist Clement Garin, the claims of plagiarism against the series The Hunt come from it being a close, uncredited copy of the 1973 novel Shoot by Douglas Fairbairn. Shoot was published as The Hunt in 1974, and a film adaptation of Shoot, also titled Shoot, was directed by Harvey Hart in 1976.
Apple TV+’s The Hunt centers around Franck and his friends, who find themselves unexpectedly hunted by another group with unclear motives. After one of Franck’s companions is shot, the group retaliates, wounding an attacker and creating a chance to escape.
So, my friends and I pulled off this crazy event and swore we wouldn’t tell a soul. But once things settled down and I was back home with my wife, Krystel, we all started getting this unsettling feeling – like we were being watched, like someone was out to get us for what we’d done. It was seriously creepy, and that’s why we ended up calling it The Hunt. It felt like we were the hunted.
This marks the second thriller series Apple TV+ has cancelled recently. Previously, they announced the postponement of The Savant, stating, “After careful consideration, we have decided to postpone the series. We appreciate your understanding and hope to release it in the future.”
I was really disappointed to hear about the delay of The Savant, and Jessica Chastain actually addressed it on Instagram. She made it clear how much she appreciates working with Apple – she said they’ve been fantastic partners and she has a lot of respect for everyone involved. But she also wanted to be upfront about the fact that she doesn’t agree with the decision to put the release on hold.
Cédric Anger directed the series The Hunt, which features Benoît Magimel, Mélanie Laurent, Damien Bonnard, Manuel Guillot, Cédric Appietto, Frédéric Maranber, Angelyna Danabe-Mignot, Paul Beaurepaire, Yann Goven, Sarah Pachoud, and Patrick De Vallette.
