HBO’s Lanterns Trailer Description Reveals DCU’s 4th Green Lantern

As a huge DC fan, I was so excited to read the first details about the Lanterns trailer! It sounds like this new show is finally going to give us a proper look at the Green Lantern Corps within the DCU James Gunn is building. What’s really cool is it looks like they’re introducing a fourth Green Lantern alongside the classic heroes, Hal Jordan and John Stewart. I can’t wait to see it when it streams in 2026!

Although Lanterns isn’t scheduled to release for a while—and has even been delayed recently—a trailer could be coming soon. Some journalists in South America were given an early look at the new DC Studios series.

I just read on Omelete that HBO showed off a first glimpse of their upcoming Green Lantern series during a presentation in South America. Apparently, the footage really focused on the dynamic between John Stewart and Hal Jordan, showing John mentoring Hal in how to be a Lantern. What’s even more exciting is they hinted at another Green Lantern hero being involved, which has me totally buzzing about what’s to come in 2026!

The first teaser trailer included a reference to Ch’p, the chipmunk Green Lantern from the comic books, confirming he’ll be part of the DC Universe.

A new series called Lanterns is coming to HBO Max next summer. Created by Damon Lindelof and Chris Mundy, the show centers on two Green Lanterns on Earth who are investigating a series of disturbing crimes that may have cosmic origins. Kyle Chandler, known for Friday Night Lights, stars as the experienced Lantern Hal Jordan, and Aaron Pierre, from Rebel Ridge, plays his powerful apprentice, John Stewart.

Every Green Lantern in the DCU So Far

Ch’p

Ch’p, first seen in the trailer for the Lanterns series, is a Green Lantern hero from the planet H’lven, which is inhabited by intelligent rodents. This super-powered chipmunk wields a Green Lantern ring, giving him the same incredible abilities and duties as other Lanterns like Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

Fans are speculating about whether Ch’p, the squirrel-like alien Lantern, has already appeared in the DC Universe. A popular theory suggests the chipmunk Superman rescued in James Gunn’s Superman movie was actually Ch’p in disguise.

Hal Jordan

Next year, Kyle Chandler will play Hal Jordan in Lanterns, bringing a significant DC character into the new DC Universe. This isn’t the first time Hal Jordan has appeared on screen; Ryan Reynolds previously played him in the 2011 Green Lantern movie, which wasn’t successful.

But in the upcoming Lanterns series, this version of Hal Jordan will be a hero nearing the end of his career. He’s ready to retire and pass the torch to a new generation, and he’ll be taking on John Stewart as his protégé.

John Stewart

Following his introduction in the comic series Lanterns, John Stewart is expected to be the main Green Lantern in the DC Universe, and will be played by actor Aaron Pierre, known for his role in Rebel Ridge.

Like others before him, Stewart is drawn to a Green Lantern ring and becomes a member of the Green Lantern Corps. He partners with experienced hero Hal Jordan to investigate a series of strange crimes happening across the American Midwest.

Guy Gardner

Nathan Fillion played Guy Gardner, making him the first Green Lantern audiences met in the DC Universe. He appeared in Superman as part of the Justice Gang, and is portrayed as a somewhat clumsy, Earth-based Lantern who sports a leather jacket and a famously bad haircut.

Following his memorable appearance in the recent season of Peacemaker, Guy Gardner will return in the upcoming Lanterns series.
