The Batman Part 2 Confirms Return To A ‘Special’ Location To Film

Previous Batman films have shown Gotham City as either incredibly realistic or completely made-up, but the 2022 movie, The Batman, struck a great balance with its setting. Luckily, director Matt Reeves and his team are revisiting this same version of the city for the sequel.

Glasgow, Scotland will once again double as Gotham City in The Batman – Part II, according to Glasgow World. Filming for the sequel, slated to begin in January 2026, will primarily take place at Warner Bros. Studios in England, but will also utilize exterior locations in Glasgow and Liverpool.

According to an article in Glasgow World, director Matt Reeves – who is returning to helm and co-write the project – shared why filming in this location was so important for realizing his vision of Batman.

When designing the city, I really wanted it to feel like a classic American Gothic setting, but something totally new and unique. To achieve that, we looked at amazing Gothic architecture, and Glasgow was a huge inspiration – honestly, it was so beautiful I wish we could have shot more scenes there! I genuinely think we created something special with this Gotham; it’s a really incredible place.

Barry Keoghan, appearing in The Batman – Part II, also mentioned how much he liked Glasgow’s old-fashioned atmosphere. He said the city’s skyline helped make the ending of his first DC film look stunning.

Glasgow’s unique design was key to creating the distinctive look of The Batman, making it feel like a true DC Comics adaptation while still seeming realistic. This visual style is what sets the film apart as a special superhero movie, and it’s essential to the world of The Batman – Part II. Without this version of Gotham, the sequel wouldn’t be the same.

What Else Is Known About The Batman – Part II

After a long development process, work on The Batman – Part II is officially starting. Director Matt Reeves and writer Mark Tomiln shared the news on social media, with a projected release date in June 2025.

Robert Pattinson will return as Batman, and Irish actor Barry Keoghan has confirmed he’ll be back too, though his part is described as smaller. He’s still very enthusiastic about the movie. Jeffrey Wright, nominated for an Academy Award, will again play James Gordon, Batman’s ally, and Andy Serkis will reprise his role as Alfred Pennyworth.

Barry Keoghan has suggested we might see more of his Joker in The Batman Part II, after his quick cameo at the end of the first movie. While Zoë Kravitz likely won’t be back as Catwoman for the sequel, there’s a good chance she’ll reappear in a potential third film.

Details about the story and the villain in the next Batman film starring Robert Pattinson remain scarce after his conflict with Paul Dano’s Riddler. However, DC Studios head James Gunn has repeatedly confirmed that The Batman Part – II will be a standalone story, separate from the main DC Universe timeline.

The Batman – Part II is set to fly into theaters on Oct. 1, 2027
