Hallmark Just Cancelled Its Best Series (And Yes, I Am In My Feels)

Hallmark’s time travel drama, The Way Home, won’t be back after 2026. The show has been cancelled, and the upcoming fourth season will be its last. While there’s some relief in knowing how the story will conclude, many fans – including myself – are sad to see it go, especially with so many unanswered questions left after the season three finale.

Despite the show’s cancellation, a fourth season of The Way Home is still planned. While fans were used to the show airing in January and February, the new season will premiere in the spring instead. The lack of updates had been concerning, but any continuation of the series is welcome news after Hallmark decided to end it.

Hallmark Media’s Senior Vice President, Samantha DiPippo, acknowledged the contributions of stars Andi MacDowell, Chyler Leigh, Sadie Laflamme-Snow, and Evan Williams as the show nears its conclusion. She also thanked creators and executive producers Heather Conkle, Alexandra Clarke, and Marly Reed, telling a media source:

Since the very beginning of The Way Home, viewers have been captivated by the show’s intricate mysteries, eagerly watching and rewatching each episode to unravel the clever story created by Heather Conkie, Alexandra Clarke, and Marly Reed. We’re incredibly thankful for our wonderful cast, including Andie, Chyler, Evan, and Sadie, and for the dedication of our talented writers and crew.

The executive promised fans a season full of surprises and a conclusive ending that will finally provide the answers they’ve been hoping for. Honestly, while the news of the show ending is a little sad, I’m more glad that Season 4 will tie up loose ends than I am anticipating any dramatic plot twists.

What began as a typical family drama about the Landry family, The Way Home took some surprising turns with time travel, making it, in my opinion, Hallmark’s best series so far. I say that even though When Calls the Heart, starring Erin Krakow, is about to start its amazing 13th season. While The Way Home probably wouldn’t have lasted as long as When Calls the Heart, it’s still hard to accept that it’s ending.

Over its three seasons, the show has gained a dedicated following. Fans were so enthusiastic that Hallmark initially considered moving it exclusively to their streaming service, Hallmark+, but ultimately decided against it. Hallmark+ already features other Hallmark series like Finding Mr. Christmas, Mistletoe Murders, and Holidazed, among others. And there are still plenty of new Hallmark Christmas movies on the way as part of the Countdown to Christmas lineup.

As of today, Hallmark hasn’t announced a specific date for the fourth and final season of The Way Home, but it’s expected to arrive in the spring. Filming will finish in late November, so I’m hoping the cast will share some behind-the-scenes moments on social media as they wrap up. I doubt we’ll see much reminiscing about being dunked in the pond, though!
