Be warned: This article reveals key plot details from the movie The Conjuring: Last Rites. If you haven’t watched it yet, you might want to avoid reading further!
Big life events like graduations or retirements are usually celebrated with the people who supported you along the way, and the film Conjuring: Last Rites does just that. The movie, released in 2025, will be known as the final installment featuring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren, and it ends with a memorable gathering of familiar faces from throughout the Conjuring series.
After successfully helping the Smurl family rid their home of a malevolent presence, the Warrens celebrate a joyous occasion in The Conjuring: Last Rites: the wedding of their daughter, Judy (Mia Tomlinson), to her fiancé, Tony (Ben Hardy). The wedding scene features several familiar faces from past films in the franchise. Director Michael Chaves shared the story of how this reunion came together when I spoke with him earlier this fall.
That element was present from the very beginning, in the initial draft. It was particularly important to Dave Neustadter, an executive who deserves more recognition for his work on the series. He’s a fantastic supporter and a truly creative influence, and he strongly advocated for including as many people as possible.
The wedding scene is full of familiar faces from the previous Conjuring movies. Lili Taylor and Mackenzie Foy are back as Carolyn and Cindy Perron from The Conjuring, while Frances O’Connor and Madison Wolfe return as Peggy and Janet Hodgson from The Conjuring 2. Julian Hilliard plays David Glatzel from The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Plus, director James Wan, who also produced the franchise and directed the first two films, is there celebrating with everyone.
Michael Chaves shared that the party was open to everyone, and he was delighted with those who could make it to the shoot, even though not everyone was free. He also mentioned he hadn’t met many of the cameo actors before filming Last Rites, making it a special experience for him as a fan. He continued by saying,
We were filming in England, and he said we should bring over anyone from the show who could travel. We managed to get as many of the cast and crew there as possible. It was tricky coordinating everyone’s schedules – some people were already committed to other projects. But I was really pleased with who we did get, and it was the first time I’d met a lot of them. As a fan of the show myself, I was completely starstruck and loved getting to meet everyone.
I was so excited when The Conjuring: Last Rites finally hit HBO Max! It broke records in theaters back in September, then came out digitally, and now I can watch it as part of my subscription, plus all the other movies in The Conjuring Universe – awesome!
