The upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie has hit a snag. Paramount announced plans in April 2024 to create a live-action, R-rated film based on the 2022 graphic novel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin. Director Ilya Naishuller, known for the film Nobody, was initially considered for the project, which promised a darker and more intense tone.
According to a new report in The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount has cancelled its planned adaptation of The Last Ronin. This decision comes as the studio intends to reboot the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise with live-action films, overseen by producer Neal H. Moritz, who also worked on Sonic the Hedgehog. Because of this new direction, the previously planned R-rated movie was cancelled.
