As a big fan, I was disappointed to find out there’s no new episode of Grey’s Anatomy tonight, but ABC has a good reason. It’s been a really eventful year for the show already! Season 21 ended with a shocking bombing and the loss of Natalie, and we even got to see Maggie and Jackson back for a visit. Plus, the show celebrated its 450th episode, which meant Amelia had to take a temporary leave. It’s a lot to pack in, so I understand why they’re taking a break!
Even though Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo, remains the central figure of Grey’s Anatomy, the show continues to explore other characters’ stories, blending their personal lives with the demands of their jobs. In a recent episode from the 2025-2026 season, titled “When I Crash,” doctors Jo and Richard faced especially difficult and uncertain situations.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 23 Has Officially Started Its Midseason Hiatus
Jo is facing serious health complications from her pregnancy, and Richard has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, leaving viewers wondering what will happen next. But, in typical Grey’s Anatomy style, these dramatic storylines are being left unresolved as the show takes its winter break. This means fans won’t see any new episodes until 2025.
Most of ABC’s scripted shows, like Grey’s Anatomy, began airing in early October, with new episodes released consistently each week. This allowed them to launch six episodes over the past month and a half. Now, ABC is holding the remaining episodes until 2026.
When Grey’s Anatomy Returns & What To Expect From Season 22, Episode 7
Great news for fans of Grey’s Anatomy – season 22 is set to return on January 8, 2026! While the show is currently on break, this is a better situation than last year. Previously, Grey’s and other ABC shows were off the air for several months, not returning until March 2025 after a break that started in December 2024.
ABC hasn’t yet announced official information about Grey’s Anatomy season 22, episode 7, including its title. However, the episode will likely continue the story right after the midseason finale, particularly focusing on Jo’s situation, as there’s a strong desire to reveal what happens to her and her twins. The network has offered a brief preview of the episode, understandably centering on the efforts to save Jo and the babies.
