Andy Richter Didn’t Hold Back While Explaining Why Whitney Leavitt’s DWTS Elimination Was ‘Absolutely Insane’

The current season of Dancing with the Stars is nearing its end, and as the celebrity contestants get closer to winning the coveted Mirrorball Trophy, excitement and emotion are building. Recently, Whitney Leavitt from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives was eliminated with her partner, Mark Ballas, and some fans—including Andy Richter—are questioning whether the judging was fair and based solely on dance performance.

The semifinals of Dancing with the Stars aired on November 18th and are available to stream on Disney+ or Hulu. Five finalists – Jordan Chiles, Alix Earle, Dylan Efron, Elaine Hendrix, and Robert Irwin – will be competing in next week’s finale. Unfortunately, Whitney Leavitt from Secret Lives of Mormon Wives was eliminated. Andy Richter expressed his disagreement with the decision, noting Whitney’s skill and progress throughout Season 34, as he told EW:

I was shocked when Whitney was eliminated. She’s a fantastic dancer, and it doesn’t make sense, especially considering how critical some people were of my technique. If they wanted perfect dancing, I don’t understand why she was sent home.

I’ve always known that Dancing with the Stars isn’t really about finding the most technically skilled dancer, but more about who people like the best. That’s what helped me, Andy Richter, stay in the competition as long as I did – Emma Slater and I were only eliminated a week before Whitney Leavitt. I think that’s also why I started posting those funny rehearsal videos on TikTok – to show everyone we were having fun and hopefully win some fans!

The comedian hinted that some of the issues from the show Secret Lives of Mormon Wives might be affecting the dancing competition, and he went on to explain:

There’s a lot of online chatter and drama happening alongside the show, and it’s a good way to get a sense of how viewers are leaning when it comes to voting. I’ve been noticing people constantly saying ‘Whitney needs to be eliminated,’ and I honestly don’t understand why.

Whitney Leavitt has often been seen as a troublemaker on the Hulu reality show, either by stirring up conflict among the moms involved or by changing her mind about wanting to be part of the group in later seasons. She even confessed to rejoining the group specifically to try out for Dancing with the Stars.

Now that Season 3 of SLOMW started airing at the same time as DWTS, some are wondering if recent events might have affected how people voted. Regardless, even after a slightly uncomfortable moment between Whitney Leavitt and Danielle Fishel (which Danielle brushed off), Andy Richter insists the TikTok star is a genuinely kind person, saying:

Whitney was genuinely one of the kindest and most positive people on the show. From the moment we met, she was incredibly supportive and encouraging towards me, always making me feel like a valued part of the team.

It’s really nice to see Andy Richter and Whitney Leavitt become friends, though I can just picture Mikayla Matthews unimpressed by it all.

Season 34 of Dancing with the Stars included two contestants from the show The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Jen Affleck was the sixth celebrity eliminated. She and her professional partner, Jan Ravnik, faced challenges stemming from outside the competition, including criticism from DWTS pro Maks Chmerkovskiy, who questioned the technique of a dancer also known for performing with Taylor Swift.

It seems like there’s never a dull moment with the stars of Sister Wives! Don’t miss the season finale of Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) on Tuesday, November 25th at 8 p.m. ET, airing on ABC and streaming live on Disney+, to find out who wins the coveted trophy.
