Netflix revealed that two popular movies from the MonsterVerse will be available to stream starting in early December. This marks the first time these films will be on the service, following their successful runs in theaters and continued popularity with fans.
Godzilla and Godzilla: King of the Monsters begin streaming on Netflix in December
Starting December 1st, you’ll be able to watch Godzilla and Godzilla: King of the Monsters on Netflix in the U.S. These films are among the new titles coming to the platform in December 2025.
Gareth Edwards directed the 2014 Godzilla movie, which started the Monsterverse and presented Godzilla as the last of his kind – a powerful, ancient species. The film depicts Godzilla appearing when other massive, ancient creatures begin to disrupt the world. Netflix is releasing Godzilla as part of its initial December lineup, alongside other movies, dramas, and holiday content.
Starting December 1st, you can stream “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” (2019), directed by Michael Dougherty. The movie continues the story of the Monsterverse, where the organization Monarch deals with the re-emergence of massive creatures called Titans – including King Ghidorah, Rodan, and Mothra. This film makes Godzilla even bigger than in the 2014 movie and officially categorizes him within Monarch’s research. Legendary Pictures created this third installment in the Monsterverse, featuring a cast of characters connected to Monarch’s team.
The creators of the Monsterverse films made sure Godzilla looked similar to the original Japanese version. They added details like gills and adjusted his body to help him move in water. In ‘King of the Monsters,’ they made his dorsal plates bigger and changed his overall shape to make him appear more like a powerful hunter. Throughout both films, Godzilla is presented as a dominant, territorial creature whose return is linked to significant changes in the environment.
Starting December 1st, Netflix will stream both Godzilla movies from the Monsterverse, along with a variety of other films and series. These include A League of Their Own, As Good as It Gets, The Wolf of Wall Street, Downton Abbey, Grantchester, Rio, and Zero Dark Thirty. These additions kick off Netflix’s full lineup of new content for December 2025, with Godzilla and Godzilla: King of the Monsters leading the way.
