The new movie Zootopia 2 is proving very popular on streaming, but it’s unusual because it hasn’t been shown in cinemas yet. Disney has created animated films that many generations have enjoyed, and the first Zootopia movie, released in 2016, continued that successful pattern.
A sequel to the hit movie Zootopia is officially in the works! Zootopia 2 will bring back familiar faces from the original, and also introduce exciting new characters, including Dwayne Johnson as a dik-dik named Zeke. This is the first new Zootopia project since the release of Zootopia+, a series of short animated films on Disney+, and it’s already become a popular topic on the streaming service.
Zootopia 2 Is Surging On Disney+ With A Preview
It’s a bit surprising to see a Zootopia 2 movie trending on Disney+, considering the full film isn’t scheduled to be released in theaters until November 26, 2025. But there’s a good reason for it! According to data from FlixPatrol, the 4-minute preview, titled Zootopia 2 | A Special Look, is currently the 3rd most popular movie on Disney+ worldwide.
Disney has done this before, offering early looks at several of its 2025 movies, which have all proven popular on its streaming service. We’ve seen this with titles like Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps and, more recently, Predator: Badlands. In fact, Predator: Badlands is still performing well on Disney+, currently ranking as one of the top ten most-watched movies globally.
Could Zootopia 2’s Streaming Success Boost The Movie’s Box Office?

As a critic, I’m already seeing incredibly promising signs for Zootopia 2. The fact that it’s dominating streaming numbers before even hitting theaters is a really good indicator for its box office potential. Honestly, though, a hit was pretty much guaranteed – the first Zootopia was such a cultural phenomenon and a massive success, so expectations were sky-high from the start.
As a huge animation fan, I remember when Zootopia blew everyone away back in 2016 – it actually crossed a billion dollars at the box office! So, there’s a lot of excitement for Zootopia 2, especially after waiting nine years for it. And the early numbers from its debut on Disney+? They’re looking really promising, suggesting this sequel might even outperform the original at the box office. Fingers crossed!
Reports from Deadline suggest that Zootopia 2 is predicted to earn over $125 million domestically during its opening weekend over the Thanksgiving holiday. This is a significant increase from the original Zootopia, which debuted with $75.1 million. Considering the first film’s success and Zootopia 2‘s potential as a streaming hit, experts believe it could gross over $1 billion worldwide.
