I was thrilled when Sam Elliott signed on for Landman. Having previously seen his fantastic work in Taylor Sheridan’s 1883, I was hoping he’d appear in another show from the same creator. With Season 2 of Landman set to premiere in 2025, I asked one of the show’s creators which other actors from Sheridan’s shows he’d like to work with. His answer was brilliant and absolutely needs to happen!
Taylor Sheridan’s new show, Landman, boasts a stellar cast, headlined by Billy Bob Thornton. Demi Moore has an expanded role in the second season, and the show also features Ali Larter, Andy Garcia, and familiar faces from Sheridan’s other series, including Sam Elliott and Michelle Randolph (from 1883 and 1923, respectively). I recently spoke with co-creator Christian Wallace and asked him which actor from another Sheridan show he’d like to see join the Landman cast. Here’s what he said:
There are a lot of talented actors out there, and Taylor is fantastic at bringing them back for different roles. He has a great eye for casting. I’d personally love to see Tim McGraw and Faith Hill appear in more of his projects. They were amazing in ‘1883,’ and Tim previously worked with Billy in the movie ‘Friday Night Lights’ – it would be really cool to see them together again.

Absolutely! This is a fantastic idea. The connection between the actors is too strong to ignore. As Wallace pointed out, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill were amazing as James and Margaret Dutton in 1883 (available on Paramount+), and they shared the screen with Sam Elliott, who played Shea Brennan. Bringing them back together would be wonderful. Plus, Billy Bob Thornton made a brief appearance in 1883 as well, so having these Yellowstone prequel actors reunite in Landman would be a perfect, satisfying moment.

I was so disappointed when 1883 didn’t get another season, and honestly, this feels like a fantastic opportunity to see those incredible actors working together again – but in a completely fresh, modern setting! It would be amazing to watch them tackle something new.
It wouldn’t just bring back cast members from 1883. As Wallace noted, it would also be a reunion for fans of Friday Night Lights. Billy Bob Thornton and Tim McGraw both appeared in the 2004 film, and seeing them work together again, especially in Texas, would be fantastic.
Honestly, the idea of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill working together again is just exciting! But even if you forget about their history as a couple, it’s a brilliant casting choice. They were incredible in 1883, really proved they’ve got the acting chops, and I’d be thrilled to see them on screen together again. They felt so natural in that Western setting, and I think they’d be perfect for Landman too.

With a Paramount+ subscription, you can watch all the shows featured in this article. Plans begin at $7.99 monthly, or $59.99 annually, and a premium plan is available for $12.99 per month. See the deal here.
I’m not sure what roles would suit them, but it would be great to see them play a couple with a connection to the Norris family, and their rivalry would be entertaining. Given the show’s modern setting and their fame as country music stars, it would also be fantastic if Tim McGraw and Faith Hill contributed music to the soundtrack.
This idea has a lot of potential, and I’m excited about the possibility of it coming to life. In the meantime, you can enjoy the new episodes of Landman, starring a fantastic cast, every Sunday on Paramount+.
