After years of fan requests, Jessica Jones is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in season two of Daredevil: Born Again. Now that the Marvel-Netflix series are officially part of the MCU timeline, the 2026 season will bring together two key members of the former Defenders team for a mini-reunion.
Sana Amanat, an executive producer on Daredevil: Born Again, recently told Empire more about why Jessica Jones returns in the show after the first season’s ending. She explained that Jessica isn’t the type to readily join forces with others, and that her return is driven by a deeply personal connection to the situation.
She also shared insights into Vincent D’Onofrio’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, describing his character as bringing a unique blend of toughness and humor. She noted that while Daredevil can be quite serious and intense, D’Onofrio’s performance adds a refreshing and playful element. The actor’s return was officially announced as part of the cast for the second season of Daredevil: Born Again at Disney’s presentation on May 13, 2025.
While it’s unknown exactly how much of a role she’ll have, reports suggest Jessica Ritter’s character will be central to the story when she returns in the new season. Season 2 finished filming on July 9, 2025, and will have eight episodes.
Many fans speculate that heroes from the former Marvel-Netflix series might appear in the second season of the MCU show. Actors like Mike Colter (Luke Cage) and Finn Jones (Iron Fist) have expressed willingness to return, but Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed any of these appearances yet.
Viewers last saw actor Royce Johnson as a character in the Marvel universe during the third season of Jessica Jones, which premiered on Netflix on June 14, 2019. Given that the finale of Daredevil: Born Again featured Mayor Fisk banning vigilantes and superheroes, it makes sense that other heroes in New York City would now team up.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is scheduled to premiere on March 4, 2026.
