Popeyes Announces ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ Menu

The Five Nights at Freddy’s series centers around creepy events happening at a pizzeria inhabited by haunted robotic animals. Think of it like a scary version of Chuck E. Cheese, so it’s no surprise they’re doing a special menu to promote both brands.

But … at a chicken restaurant?

Surprisingly, the new Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 movie didn’t partner with typical fast-food chains like Domino’s, Pizza Hut, or even Chuck E. Cheese – likely because they didn’t want to further link their brand with scary, robotic animals. Instead, they created a special “Freddy Fazbear Crunch Menu” with Popeyes.

The items on this special “limited time” menu include…

  • Freddy Fazbear Deluxe Box ($12.99*) : 3 pieces of Popeyes classic or spicy mouthwatering chicken tenders topped with a savory garlic parmesan rub, served with warm, garlic crusted Cheesy Bites and a marinara dipping sauce, a Cupcake Cup and a beverage to wash it all down
  • Freddy Fazbear Box ($7.99*): 3 pieces of Popeyes classic or spicy mouthwatering chicken tenders topped with a savory garlic parmesan rub, served with warm, garlic crusted Cheesy Bites and a marinara dipping sauce
  • Cheesy Bites with Marinara Sauce ($3.99): Lightly hand-breaded, garlic crusted cheese curds made with white cheddar cheese and fried to golden perfection. Served warm with one cup of rich marinara sauce
  • Cupcake Cup ($3.99): A moist, strawberry flavored cake topped with sweet pink icing

I’ve only seen the first Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, and I haven’t played the games, so I’m a little confused by the recent references to ‘crunch.’ Is there a connection to the idea of Freddy breaking bones, or am I missing something? Someone who knows the games will have to explain it to me!

Here was what Popeyes VP of Culinary Amy Alarcon said of this collab, via a press release

Popeyes is known for big, exciting flavors, and we had a lot of fun bringing the world of Five Nights at Freddy’s to life through our menu! Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria is a key part of the movie, and we wanted to capture that same playful, energetic vibe with our food. It’s a tasty way for fans to experience the movie, combining Popeyes’ signature flavors with a touch of that classic pizzeria feeling.

The menu makes a little more sense if you think of it as inspired by classic pizzeria snacks – like those Cheesy Bites, which are basically mozzarella sticks. But honestly, the bigger question is why the menu from Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 isn’t served at a real pizza place. Then again, I’m just the guy who tries all this food and writes about it, so don’t look to me for expert opinions – especially not on making good decisions!

Popeyes is currently offering a special menu inspired by Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, but it won’t be around forever. The movie comes out in theaters on December 5th.

The Best Food and Drink at Epic Universe

Burning Cheddar Bites

You can find these at The Burning Blade Tavern in the Dark Universe area of Epic Universe. They’re described as crispy fried jalapeño pimento cheddar bites served with sriracha ranch. Honestly, they don’t look amazing, but they were surprisingly one of the best savory things I tasted! They’re also really cleverly themed. The tavern is designed to look like the windmill from the 1931 Frankenstein movie – you might have seen videos of it seemingly on fire. The theme extends to the food: the tavern’s story is that it’s full of coal, so these cheese bites are meant to resemble it! They’re crispy on the outside, with a hot and gooey jalapeño pimento filling, and the sriracha ranch adds an extra kick. It all works perfectly – even Frankenstein would approve of this fire! This is a prime example of how fun and delicious movie-themed food can be.

Butterbeer Crepe

You can find this treat at Café L’air De La Sirène in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic. It’s a crepe filled with a shortbread cookie butter Bavarian cream, Butterbeer™ cream, and fresh strawberries, topped with Butterbeer™ drizzle and a Butterbeer™ shortbread cookie. I’m a big fan of anything Butterbeer – I think it’s the best part of the Harry Potter franchise! I enjoy every new Butterbeer creation Universal comes up with, and this crepe is no exception. It’s light, thin, and the cream is sweet and rich without being overly sweet. While I question the decision to make a Wizarding World area look like 1920s Paris (it doesn’t feel very Harry Potter!), the French theme led to this delicious crepe, so I’m happy with the result.

Crimson Glazed Pork

You can find this dish at Das Stakehouse in Dark Universe. It’s described as Crimson Glazed Pork – char siu-style roasted pork belly with a “bloody” roast pork dipping sauce, served with charred green onion mashed potatoes, roasted baby carrots, acorn squash, and crispy maitake mushrooms.

Das Stakehouse is a restaurant with a vampire theme, and the presentation really embraces that – many dishes feature a lot of red sauce! The “crimson glaze” on the pork is essentially char siu sauce, but it’s arranged to look like blood. The black carrots and other charred vegetables were tasty and fit the spooky atmosphere.

Luckily, despite the horror-movie aesthetic, the food was delicious. The pork was cooked perfectly with a nice balance of sweetness from the char siu – and thankfully, no garlic (vampires don’t serve garlic!).

DK Crush Float

You can find this treat at The Bubbly Barrel in Super Nintendo Land. It’s a banana pineapple soft serve float! I thought it looked like something Donkey Kong would love – a huge pile of banana and pineapple ice cream with chocolate and caramel popcorn, served on waffle cone pieces and surrounded by pineapple soda. While I’m not a big fan of pineapple soda, everything else was amazing – perfect for a hot day in Florida. I think it would be even better with pineapple juice instead of the soda.

Dragon Fire Chicken Spire

You can find this dish at Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel in the Isle of Berk area of How to Train Your Dragon at Epic Universe. It’s described as creamy mac & cheese with Nashville-style pulled chicken, hot honey, Calabrian peppers, chimichurri, and crispy onions, all served in a crunchy cone. While the connection to the How to Train Your Dragon theme isn’t super clear (maybe the cones are supposed to look like Viking helmets?), it’s a delicious addition to the park. Epic Universe offers three versions: plain mac & cheese, and two with additional toppings. The pulled chicken and chimichurri version was the best, but the PB & J version – with bbq harissa pulled pork and peanut bacon jam – was also great. The only downside is that the toppings are only on top; the cone itself is filled with just the mac & cheese. It would be even better if some of the topping was at the bottom of the cone too!

First Light Mocktail

You can find the First Light Mocktail at Meteor Astropub in Celestial Park at Epic Universe. It’s made with Monin blue raspberry and vanilla crème syrups, blue prism powder, Minute Maid blue raspberry lemonade, Sprite, and topped with sweet cream cold foam and galactic sugar sprinkles.

I’ve been focusing on trying all the themed food and drinks at Epic Universe, and while many restaurants are in the central Celestial Park, this drink stood out. The First Light Mocktail is incredibly sweet – basically a blue raspberry lollipop in drink form – but the sweet cream cold foam is similar to the topping on Universal’s Butterbeer. If you (or a child!) have a strong sweet tooth, you’ll probably love it.

Frank & Friends Pretzel

You can find this snack at De Lacey’s Cottage in the Dark Universe. It’s described as a pretzel served with white cheese. I have to say, theme park pretzels can be hit or miss – sometimes they’re warm and delicious, but often they’re cold, hard, and overly salty. Luckily, the Frankenstein pretzel at the snack stand between Monsters Unchained and the Burning Blade is fantastic! It’s exactly what you want in a theme park pretzel, and the fun detail of biting off the bolts from Frankenstein’s neck makes it even better. I have a suggestion: instead of just a head-shaped pretzel, offer pretzels shaped like different body parts – an arm, a leg, a torso – so guests can build their own Frankenstein and shout ‘It’s alive!’ before eating it. (And on a completely unrelated note, I still can’t believe I’ve been married for over 15 years!)

Frankenstein Gummy Brains

You can find these at Moonship Chocolates & Celestial Sweets in Celestial Park. Officially, they’re described as gummy brains! I wasn’t expecting much, honestly – I just thought they were a fun, quirky treat. But they were surprisingly good! They had the perfect gummy texture and a bright, sharp strawberry flavor. If brain-shaped candy isn’t for you, Epic Universe also sells other Universal Monsters candies, like Dracula fangs, Creature From the Black Lagoon sour fish, and Wolf Man sour stars and moons, all at the candy shop near the entrance. Be prepared for some amused looks from the staff when you choose gummy brains over all the delicious pastries!

Gobber’s Mead

I recently visited Mead Hall, the main restaurant in the How to Train Your Dragon area of Epic Universe, and of course I had to try Gobber’s Mead! It’s a special mead made just for the park, inspired by the character voiced by Craig Ferguson. Honestly, I wasn’t sure about mead before, but this stuff was amazing. It tasted exactly as described – a really nice blend of boysenberry, blackcurrant, and vanilla with a hint of something special from the Grains of Paradise. It was surprisingly light and refreshing, and it’s definitely made me a fan!

Labotocotta

You can find this dessert at Das Stakehouse in the Dark Universe area of Epic Universe. It’s described as a vanilla panna cotta shaped like a brain, served with raspberry sauce. I thought Das Stakehouse had two impressively spooky desserts. The other was a red velvet cake with rice puffs made to look like maggots. While the red velvet cake looked more visually striking, this panna cotta – playfully called the ‘Labotocotta’ – tasted better. The creamy texture and rich flavor combined perfectly with the tangy raspberry sauce. Surprisingly, two of my favorite treats at Epic Universe were fake brains! After years of trying unusual theme park food, I think it’s definitely affected my judgment, and I’m now on the lookout for a replacement brain!

Red Shell Calzone

You can find this snack at Yoshi’s Snack Island in Super Nintendo Land. It’s officially described as a red shell calzone filled with Italian meat sauce and mozzarella cheese. While some of my colleagues weren’t impressed, one even compared it to a pepperoni pizza Hot Pocket, I actually enjoyed it! It brought back fond memories of my college days. It seems intentionally designed as a quick, easy snack – perfect for gamers who don’t want to pause their fun for a full meal, especially while going between rides like Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge and Mine Cart Madness. A vegetarian option is also available, served in a green calzone shell.

Snow Wraith

You can find the Snow Wraith drink at Spit Fyre Grill in the Isle of Berk area of How to Train Your Dragon. It’s officially described as a Piña Colada ICEE® with blue raspberry syrup. While dragons are known for fire, this drink is actually a refreshing, icy treat – a nod to the nearby Snow Wraith animatronic which breathes ice! Like many of the drinks at Epic Universe, it’s quite sweet, but the raspberry syrup adds a nice tartness to balance the piña colada flavor. I finished mine quickly on a hot 95-degree day – now that feels appropriately dragon-themed!
