Netflix has released the trailer for the newest installment in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out series, titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. The streaming service describes this latest mystery, starring Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc, as his most challenging and darkest case yet. The story centers around the seemingly impossible murder of a monsignor, creating a complex plot with many suspects. It promises to be a unique puzzle for Blanc, who continues to be the central figure connecting all the mysteries.
The new film, Wake Up Dead Man, follows in the footsteps of the Knives Out series with a large and impressive cast. Alongside Daniel Craig, the movie stars Kerry Washington, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Andrew Scott, and Jeffrey Wright, among other talented actors. Like previous films in the series, the ensemble cast is full of characters with secrets and potential motives, giving detective Blanc a complex mystery to solve.
Rian Johnson, the writer and director behind the popular mystery series that began with 2019’s Knives Out, is back with the third film, Wake Up Dead Man. Like the second film, Glass Onion, it will first play in select theaters for a limited two-week run starting November 26th, before becoming available to stream on Netflix starting December 12th – perfect for the holidays.
‘Wake Up Dead Man’ Is Another Critical Knives Out Success
When Knives Out was released in 2019, it was a hit with both critics and moviegoers, offering a refreshing take on the mystery genre. It earned a 97% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences loved it too, giving it a 92% score. The film’s $40 million budget was quickly surpassed, as it grossed over $312 million worldwide, leading the studio to commission a sequel from director Rian Johnson.
Netflix obtained the rights to make more Knives Out movies, and the first sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, came out in 2022. Like the original, it boasted a fantastic cast and centered around a murder on a wealthy person’s private island. Critics and fans loved it – it received a 91% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, proving it lived up to the hype. However, because Netflix released it with a short time in theaters before streaming it – similar to how they handled Wake Up Dead Man – it didn’t earn as much money in theaters as the first Knives Out film.
The new movie, Wake Up Dead Man, is almost here, and early reviews are fantastic – continuing the success of the Knives Out series. Currently, it has a 95% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Though audience scores aren’t available yet, the film’s familiar and popular style suggests it will be another crowd-pleaser, just like the previous Knives Out mysteries.
