Fans have long missed seeing Skylar Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen on TV, and it’s been a recurring complaint for years. However, there’s now reason to be hopeful that will change soon. While James Gunn hasn’t directly confirmed upcoming DC TV shows featuring the photographer, he’s hinted at their possibility in a roundabout way, similar to a clever illusionist.

The creators of American Vandal, Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, are now leading a new series about Jimmy Olsen, Superman’s friend. Initially, this project didn’t have official approval from DCU’s James Gunn, but that’s now changed. Many people – including those in my family – are excited about the news, especially since Gunn has clarified that a reported title for the show was incorrect.
The filmmaker responded on Threads to a Deadline article about their true crime series, DC Crime, saying:
Just to clarify, a project called “DC Crime” has never been considered, not even during early stages of development. I’m not sure where that information originated, but it’s inaccurate. This doesn’t mean, however, that everything else you’ve heard about the story is untrue.
Let’s hope no one prematurely got “DC Crime” tattoos thinking the project was definitely happening. But if you did, definitely flaunt them!
While James Gunn’s recent statement didn’t reveal much new information, he did suggest that most of the rumors circulating about Jimmy Olsen’s upcoming show are likely true. It’s fitting, considering the Olsens are known for their financial savvy! (Just ask Julian.)
As a comic book and TV enthusiast, I have to say, DC Crime isn’t the most out-there title for a DC anthology series. But honestly, it feels like a really odd choice for a show starring someone as hilarious as a cast member from Santa Clarita Diet and The Righteous Gemstones! I mean, yeah, crime happens in these stories, but it’s part of pretty much every superhero or action show out there. It just doesn’t feel like a title that really captures what the show is about.
Gunn later explained his delay in responding, stating that he was only addressing the news after it had already become widely known.
People have been excitedly asking me about something called ‘DC Crime’ for the past five days, even in person! I was really surprised, as I had no idea what they were talking about.
Let’s see if James Gunn will also debunk any other non-accurate titles for Jimbone’s DCU TV debut.

Honestly, I’m a little on edge until I’m absolutely sure this new project doesn’t share any of those existing titles. It’s silly, I know, but I’m so hyped about it that even the possibility is keeping me up! Though, even if it somehow launches without a title at all, I’d still be unbelievably excited – like, as excited as someone who learned Krypton was a real place and Earth was within reach!
You can currently watch Skylar Gisondo as Jimmicles in Superman, which is streaming on HBO Max.
