‘It Is Worse, To Be Honest.’ If You Thought The Grey’s Anatomy Fall Finale Was Rough, You May Not Love What’s To Come (Or How Long We Have To Wait)

Warning: This article reveals key plot points from the Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 fall finale, which aired on November 13th. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can stream episodes with a Hulu subscription to get caught up.

I was right to worry about a character on Grey’s Anatomy before the Season 22 finale, “When I Crash.” Camilla Luddington warned that Jo’s storyline would be shocking, and it definitely was – Jo and her twins were in danger at the end of the November 13th episode. Unfortunately, things don’t look like they’ll improve when the season continues.

Camilla Luddington Says The Next Episode Of Grey’s Anatomy Is ‘Worse,’ And ‘Survival Is Not Guaranteed’

It feels like a long time ago when Jo and Link were happily in love and getting married at the end of Season 21. Considering everything that’s happened to them in the first six episodes of Season 22, it really does feel like years! Over the summer, fans worried about whether Link would survive the operating room explosion, leaving Jo a widow with four children. Now, the situation is reversed – Jo is the one facing a difficult and uncertain future.

Link is facing the heartbreaking possibility of losing his wife or one of his daughters. Actress Camilla Luddington, in an interview with The Wrap, didn’t seem hopeful about their fate, stating that no one is guaranteed to survive. She described receiving the scripts for the episodes “When I Crash” and the one that followed, and how they felt…

I’d heard rumors that Jo was going to go through something major, and when I read the script, I realized I needed to brace myself emotionally. The storyline gets pretty intense, both in this episode and the one following it – it’s a really difficult arc.

Grey’s Anatomy has dealt with difficult baby storylines before, and I’m hoping to avoid revisiting that emotional territory unless the plot truly requires it. However, the actress hinted that such a storyline might be on the horizon.

Let me warn you, things are about to get really tough. The next episode is even more intense, so brace yourself. Maybe have some wine and remember you don’t have to deal with it right away – Grey’s Anatomy won’t be back with new episodes until January.

Drink a lot of wine. Check. And yes, she did say it’s not happening until January, because…

Grey’s Anatomy Is On Hiatus Until 2026

The actors seem to know what’s coming, but we need to keep the suspense going over the holidays. Grey’s Anatomy will be back in 2026, with the first new episode airing on Thursday, January 8th. The preview doesn’t reveal much, but it looks like you might want to have tissues handy when you watch!

Hearing a baby cry actually feels positive to me, but I won’t truly feel content until there are two babies. Also, Miranda Bailey’s tears likely stem from finding out Richard Webber has cancer, as revealed in the season finale.

Camilla Luddington’s Comments About Her Future On Grey’s Sound Ominous

I’ve been watching Grey’s Anatomy for years, and it’s amazing to think Camilla Luddington first joined the show back in Season 9, way back in 2012! After being part of around 250 episodes, she recently said she’s just grateful to have come this far, and honestly, I feel the same way. She shared that she was saying:

It’s amazing to have lasted this long on the show, and I’m incredibly thankful for all the experiences I’ve had throughout the seasons.

Did anyone else feel like that sounded like a farewell? The Wrap also inquired about her thoughts on potentially bringing Katherine Heigl back to reprise her role as Izzie Stevens, but she clarified that she hadn’t actually suggested this to the show’s writers. And beyond that…

Look, I’m a huge fan, and I’ve been thinking about where things could go, but honestly, bringing Jo back into the story is a bit tricky to discuss at this moment. It would definitely continue her arc, and I’m just not at liberty to talk about any of that right now. I wish I could say more, but my lips are sealed!

Um, yikes.

Winter’s coming, and it’s going to be a long one! Luckily, you can rewatch your favorite episodes of Grey’s Anatomy to help pass the time. Or, start from the beginning and revisit a beloved season. You can stream all 21 seasons on Hulu, or the first 21 seasons with a Netflix subscription.
