Patrick Brice, who directed the 2015 horror film Creep and its follow-ups, hints that Creep 3 is in the works. Despite currently focusing on their TV series, The Creep Tapes, Brice and co-creator Mark Duplass haven’t given up on making another Creep movie. Fans may soon see the return of the character Peachfuzz on the big screen.
The director recently discussed Season 2 of The Creep Tapes on the Slasher Radio podcast, which launches today on Shudder. Both Brice and Duplass have expressed interest in bringing Duplass’ character, Peachfuzz, back for another movie sequel, but so far, fans have only seen the character appear in the TV series. When asked about the future of the film franchise and how the Shudder series fits in, Brice explained:
We discuss this constantly and are actively developing it. It’s a key component of our overall plans. In many ways, the show serves as a testing ground for what ‘Creep 3’ might become. While I won’t reveal specifics, some of the show’s episodes originated as ideas we considered for ‘Creep 3’ at various times.
I really want the third ‘Creep’ movie to be memorable and feel worthwhile as a standalone film. If we decide to make it, we need to honor what we’ve already built with the series, but also take some bold risks and deliver something unexpected.
The first movie, released in 2015, was very popular with horror fans because it offered a unique villain and a fresh take on the familiar ‘found footage‘ style. The 2017 sequel was even more impressive, boasting better production quality and earning widespread critical praise. In fact, it’s unusual for a found footage horror film to receive a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, which this one did.

The second Creep film ends with the killer still alive and attacking, hinting at a potential third movie. The Creep Tapes takes place in a separate timeline and features shorter episodes of the killer stalking victims. While a third Creep film would need a fresh approach, the director, Brice, already has an idea. He’s drawing inspiration from Sam Raimi’s Army of Darkness, the third Evil Dead film, which significantly altered the series’ formula by moving the horror from a remote cabin to a medieval setting.
I’ve been considering how similar situations have played out before. I really love Army of Darkness, and I often use it as an example of a third film in a horror series that wasn’t afraid to take risks and try something different.
The film cleverly built upon an existing franchise, then took it in a surprisingly enjoyable and fresh direction. Sam Raimi used the opportunity to experiment with a different genre, which was something he was passionate about.
With Creep 3 feeling like it could be produced soon, Brice and Duplass appear to be heading in the right direction to continue the Creep series. However, the director also intends to keep future installments within the television format, focusing on The Creep Tapes.
We’re really pleased with how we’re making The Creep Tapes and how it fits into our work, so we plan to continue with this format for as long as possible. While we might consider a third movie at some point, our priority right now is to make the show the best it can be.
