As a huge fan, I’m already counting down the days until the next season of Doctor Who! It’s a bit frustrating that we’ll have to wait until 2026, even though the Disney+ deal falling through is ultimately a good thing for the show. But honestly, I’m so excited to hear that a podcast featuring some classic Doctors is coming out while we wait – that’s fantastic news and will definitely help tide me over!
Besides the new series, The War Between The Land And The Sea, fans can also listen to a special Doctor Who podcast. It’s hosted by two actors who famously played companions alongside the Doctor, and is a must-listen for anyone who enjoyed Matt Smith’s time as the Doctor!
Arthur Darvill And Karen Gillan Are Starting A “Pondcast”
Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan, known as companions Amy and Rory Pond in Doctor Who, are launching a podcast! Called The Pondcast, it will feature the pair rewatching their Doctor Who episodes and chatting with former crew members.
Although details like a release date and guest list haven’t been revealed, Darvill shared that they’ve already spoken with Steven Moffat, the showrunner during their time on the series.
Right now, those episodes aren’t available for streaming in the US, but hopefully Paramount+ or another streaming service will pick them up soon. Regardless, I’m really excited to hear these two talk about the show that launched their careers – it’s going to be a great conversation!
Arthur Darvill Hasn’t Seen A Good Number Of The Episodes
What I find most interesting about The Pondcast is that Arthur Darvill hasn’t watched many of his Doctor Who episodes. The actor, who moved on to Legends of Tomorrow after his time on Doctor Who, discussed how much of the show he’s actually seen and what listeners can look forward to in the podcast.
I haven’t finished watching it yet, so we’re planning to rewatch and discuss it. We’ve already recorded a few episodes, and it’s been a lot of fun. It’s mostly just Karen and me chatting and remembering things, so don’t expect a ton of new information, but it’s been great to revisit it all.
This podcast seems like it’ll be all about the fun times and good memories Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill had while filming Doctor Who, and I’m definitely excited about that!
It would be great if they could have Matt Smith as a guest on their show sometime. Perhaps he could appear when House of the Dragon Season 3 is coming out – it would be a good way for him to promote the new season and also talk about his previous work.
We’re hoping for several episodes of The Pondcast in 2026, since a new Doctor Who episode isn’t expected until Christmas of that year. By then, we’ll likely have a better idea of what’s in store for The Doctor, and whether Billie Piper will actually be playing the Time Lord – or if it’s all a clever mystery. Honestly, I’m not sure which outcome I’d prefer at this point; I just want to see some new adventures!
Currently, The War Between The Land And The Sea is scheduled for release in the US in 2026 and will be the last Doctor Who series distributed by Disney+. The BBC will begin broadcasting the show in the UK in December, so try to avoid spoilers until then! And don’t forget to revisit the adventures of the Ponds with The Pondcast.
