A recent rumor about Avengers: Doomsday claims a male Black Panther will be featured in the film. After the sad loss of Chadwick Boseman, who famously played T’Challa, Marvel decided to have T’Challa’s sister, Shuri (Letitia Wright), take on the role of Wakanda’s protector. While Shuri is already confirmed to be in Avengers 5, this new rumor suggests an unexpected development regarding who will be playing Black Panther in the upcoming Marvel team-up movie.
Although Shuri became the Black Panther during the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, and will officially join the Avengers team in Avengers: Doomsday, she might not be the only one holding the title in the new film. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Avengers: Doomsday will feature another Black Panther – a male character. This suggests that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will have two Black Panthers simultaneously: Shuri as the female version and a new male character taking on the mantle.
It’s currently unknown how the new Black Panther will fit into the story of Avengers: Doomsday, but it will probably involve the Multiverse. Earlier this year, Jeff Sneider reported that Marvel was considering recasting the role of T’Challa, and using the Multiverse concept would allow them to do so. Just like Robert Downey Jr. plays different versions of Iron Man, Marvel could cast a new actor as a T’Challa from another universe, creating compelling interactions with characters like Shuri.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve been thinking about the new Black Panther, and honestly, it might not even be T’Challa. It’s totally possible they’re introducing a Black Panther from another universe – a different version of the hero who’s stepped up in their world. It’s a mind-blowing idea, but the Multiverse opens up so many possibilities!
Over the years, multiple characters in Marvel Comics have been the Black Panther. One strong contender for inclusion in future stories is K’Shamba, who starred in the Black Panther 2099 comic series. In that series, K’Shamba, as Black Panther, successfully defended Wakanda against Doctor Doom, driving his army back to Latveria. Because of K’Shamba’s existing connection to Doctor Doom within the wider Marvel Multiverse, he would be a fitting Black Panther to feature in Avengers: Doomsday.
The Russo brothers (Joe and Anthony) are directing the next Avengers movie for Marvel Studios. Over 20 actors from previous Marvel Cinematic Universe films will return, and the movie will feature Robert Downey Jr. as the iconic villain Doctor Doom, who will be the central figure in the story. This film kicks off Phase 6 of the MCU.
