Here are the reviews of The Carpenter’s Son.
In a review for Screen Rant, Greggory Nussen described Nathan’s film as interesting and often disturbing, praising its captivating ending. However, he felt the movie relied too heavily on familiarity with the original story to be fully satisfying. Nussen was particularly critical of the casting choices, finding Nicolas Cage and FKA twigs as the adoptive parents to be strangely mismatched.
William Bibbiani from The Wrap described ‘The Carpenter’s Son’ as a horror film based on biblical themes with some intriguing concepts. However, he felt the film’s unusual viewpoint ultimately prevented it from being emotionally impactful.
FandomWire’s Sean Boelman described the film as simply “bad,” not due to any offensive content or historical errors, but because it was incredibly boring to watch – like “watching paint dry” for ninety minutes.
In a review for The AV Club, Jacob Oller noted that it’s surprisingly difficult to make a boring movie even with a premise as wild as Nicolas Cage playing Joseph and Jesus fighting Satan. He said ‘The Carpenter’s Son’ commits to being that dull movie with unwavering dedication, though not much else.
In a review for ComingSoon, Jonathan Sim described “The Carpenter’s Son” as either a visually interesting take on biblical stories or a horror film that ultimately lacked suspense and didn’t deliver genuine scares. While he enjoys horror, he felt this movie didn’t manage to grab his attention or create a truly frightening experience.
